Her blue hair swayed softly in the cool midsummer breeze as she walked towards her parent's bakery. She opened the door and was welcomed with the sweet aroma of freshly baked croissants. Smiling, she greeted her mother.

"Hey mama," she tiptoed and kissed her mother's cheek whilst her mother finished arranging the baked goods on a stand.

"Hi Marinette," Sabine looked to the clock just above the door that her daughter had just came through and raised her eyebrows, "you're home early..." A hint of accusation in her voice.

"Yeah, well, my teacher didn't turn up for our last lesson so instead of catching up on work at school, I decided to come home and study"

"As long as you actually study and don't mess around watching youtube all afternoon that's fine."

Marinette chuckled shaking her head to her mother before replying "You know me too well."

"And you know me Darling, if I catch you not studying until from now until 4pm I will get your father to bring you down here to help me bake, I am not having a lazy 17 year old in my house." Sabine joked as Marinette walked up the stairs towards her bedroom.

She pulled out her phone and rolled her eyes. She'd always take out her phone expecting her life to be busy and then after looking at her lock screen and the time she'd remember that she had no friends. Marinette threw the phone on to her bed and sat down at her dressing table. She pulled her hair into two pigtails and reapplied some of her lip gloss. She decided that she'll finish getting ready closer to the time she was going out because who was she kidding, it took her 15 minutes to get ready not 2 hours.

She moved to her bed and got out her laptop, putting on her favourite playlist on Spotify. She went through her Facebook feed looking at her best friend's profile to see who had posted on her wall, it was Alya's birthday today and she had been the first to make a post - what would birthday's be if your best friend didn't put up a few embarrassing photos of you for all of the public to see?

Just as she saw a few of their friend's from school post their birthday messages she received a text from the one and only Alya.

"Think of the devil and she appears." Marinette muttered as she reached for her phone.

I have MAJOR news see you at 5 will tell you all bout it!

Marinette wondered for a moment what Ayla could have to tell her, she had seen her not only an hour ago when they went their separate ways at school and she knew Alya would have only gone home to spend some time with her family before they met up at the Eiffel tower at five.

The blue haired girl was sat on a bench that her and Alya deemed theirs a few years back, Alya came bounding down to the bench and smiled sitting next to Marinette, who was even more curious about what Alya had to tell her as she had a shit-eating grin on her face.

"So... I found something out that is so exciting i can't even resist telling you right here right now!" Alya started "My parents told me not to tell you as you are younger than me but all I thought was that you're only two weeks younger right?! So I decided I'd forget they said that part bu-"

"Alya!" Marinette interrupted giggling "You're going full psycho... Just tell me instead of waffling."

"Oh, right, yeah, so I-... God I don't even know how to tell you." Alya tapped her feet on the cobblestone a few times before composing herself. "Marinette. My mum told me today that I was finally old enough to find out something that literally makes the world go round. She didn't even say anything after that she just sat down next to my dad and they both pulled up their sleeves and grabbed a weird marker and i just thought ooookaaaay this is weird why-"

"Alya..." Marinette put her hand on her friends shoulder. "You're doing it again."

Ayla took a deep breathe "They told me that soul mates exist."

"What do you mean?"

"They said that when a girl turns into a woman at 18, she gains the power to speak to her soul mate - all they have to do is write with their marker a message on a part of their own body and then it will show on their soulmates body in the same place. Your soul mate can then see the message and reply with their own marker."

"You are crazy." Marinette spoke after trying to process what Alya had just said.

"Marinette I am serious! Your parents are probably going to tell you on your birthday!"

"I'll believe it when I see it..." She said straightening her back defensively. At that moment Alya sighed and pulled out a orange pen out of her bag and took the lid off. She wrote the word hey.. on her arm and Marinette watched as the orange ink glowed softly in the low dawn light. Her blue eyes went wide, her pink lips parted as she sucked in a breath. The writing slowly dimmed and disappeared, a new glow of blue hand writing formed on Alya's arm, this time it said hi :)

It is an understatement to say that Marinette's head exploded.
