I came back in the house and went to the kitchen and rested on the island. My mom was cooking dinner so I was talking to her. Then my dad came in.

"Jae, baby we had a good game." He said kissing my head.

"Thanks daddy." I said as I hugged onto him.

"Hey, I saw the way you was looking at Shareef. What was that?" He said getting a drink of water from the refrigerator. I blushed at what he said.

"Nothing dad we're just friends." I said looking down.

"C'mon kid..we all know you're light-skin so we can see you blushing." He said smiling.

"Well guess what I approve I think he's an intelligent person and he's good for you. So you two...go for it." He said as he started to drink my drink.

"Dad once again we are just friends. Nothing more." I said looking serious.

"Ok." He said laughing at how serious I am.

"Dad I don't like how the way you just chose Shareef like that. What if I liked La'Melo?" I said raising my eyebrows.

"Oh please I've known Shareef longer than you. He's a good guy."

"So he is and La'Melo's not?" I said as I grew angry.

He just sat there. I rolled my eyes and stomped upstairs.

I can't believe he would just want me to date Shareef. What if I liked La'Melo? What if I just wanted to focus on basketball? Maybe I'm overreacting? Maybe I'm not?
