Nerris woke up to Harrison turning over. When she looked at the clock, it was 7:00 a.m. They were late for school.

The Elfkin groggily put on her glasses, and started waking her friends up. "Preston. Get up we're late for school already." She said, shaking Preston lightly. He eventually got up.

Nerris sat next to Harrison, and looked at his wound. It had healed for the most part. Harrison winced as he woke up. "Good morning, Nerris." He said with a smirk.

"Good morning, Harrison." Nerris responded with a laugh, "Now get up, we're already late."

Once the trio was all done, they walked downstairs. There was a note on the fridge. It said,

Nerris,

We had to go on an unplanned business trip. We won't be home for about the next week and a half. There is food in the fridge. I trust you'll get yourself to school on time.

Love you,

Mom and Dad.

"That means we'll get the house to ourselves." Nerris explains. Both of the boys nod. They grabbed a quick breakfast, and headed for school.

"So, Harrison, are you going to explain what happened last night?" Preston curiously asked.

The magic boy sighed nervously. "It literally all started last night. When my brother.....went missing, this shadow thing stuck in my head. Every now and then it would say it could help me, he could find my brother. And help me control my magic." He explains slowly.

Nerris nodded, thinking about the floating incident.

Harrison continued, "After the magic thing that happened with Nerris, it was screaming in my head, telling me I was stupid for not listening to it. So....I did. I went to the forest, where no one would see me. We made a deal, he'd help me, I'd help him. But that didn't happen. He sort of, became a part of me. He tried attacking, killing, Nerris. He can easily take over my body, being able to do whatever he wants. I actually have no idea if he has a name...."

"Shadow. He told me to call him Shadow." Nerris said. Both of the boys nodded.

"I don't think we should talk about this at school. We're already late, we don't want then to think we're crazy! It would ruin my reputation!" Preston dramatically said.

They arrived at school, and went to the office to explain why they were late. "You three are very late. You better have a good excuse." The secretary asked us, lowering her glasses.

"Well, Harrison is staying at my place this school year. Preston came over to see him, we were friends at camp. My parents had an unplanned business trip, and I didn't realise how long we slept in. We're sorry." Nerris easily explained.

The others nodded in agreement. "Okay. I'll call your parents later. Head to class." The lady waved them off.

The kids walked down the hall. Everyone else in the hallway stared at Harrison, like he was a different person. "Umm, I feel kind of akward..." He said, rubbing his arms nervously.

"This is kind of weird...." Preston admits. The group agrees.

"I heard he scared off Peter."

"No one scares Peter....."

Murmurs like that were heard everywhere. Harrison knew they meant him. Suddenly his head started pounding. The magic boy tried to brush it off, ignore the pain. But it wasn't that easy.

You can do it! Kill them! They're scared of you!

Shadow was filling Harrison's mind with terrible thoughts. He put a hand to his head, trying to fight of the demon.

"Harrison? Are you okay?" Nerris asked, placing a hand on his back.

"Yes, Harrison, are you just acting? If you're acting you're are doing an amazing job!!" Preston tried to lighten the mood.

"I... I'm fine, guys. Just a headache...." Their friend explained. Nerris looked worried. "Harrison....? Are you sure?"

"Yes, Nerris, I'm fine!" He snapped back. The other two backed away. "I'm sorry...I just.... I'll be right back..." Harrison said, walking to the bathroom.

Once he was alone, Shadow took form in front of him. "You had the upper hand! Why didn't you do it?!" The demon yelled at Harrison.

"I'm not killing my friends! I don't care if you hurt me!" The magic boy yelled back. Shadow slapped Harrison hard across the face.

"Listen. You're stronger than I anticipated, like your friend. I can't take you over as easily as I thought. But that's a minor set back." Shadow said, rubbing his chin in thought.

"Did you really think I would let you completely take over my life?! News flash bud! Not happening! The only person I'll let you hurt is myself, and you." Harrison explained, poking Shadow in the chest.

The demon laughed, and grabbed Harrison's wrist. "Another news flash! You are never going to get rid of me! Not until you die! Then, I'll go to your friends. That little Nerris, what about her? She'll be so sad, wishing you were still alive, she'll want to bring you back. And I'll be there, making a deal." Shadow explained evilly.

Harrison tried to get his hand away. "Don't you dare hurt Nerris.......!!" He yelled.

"Oh? So you really do care about her, huh? That'll prove helpful. How about another deal? You do whatever I say, and I won't hurt your girlfriend. Deal?" Shadow asked, meaning it.

Harrison thought about it. He didn't want Nerris, or anyone for that matter, to get hurt. "I....it's a deal......" The magic boy responded. Shadow laughed, "Ah, so determined to protect your friend....now you have to do whatever I want."

The boy nodded sadly, and the demon let go of him. "Perfect. Our first task is to take out that kid, Peter." Shadow said, with a devilish smile.

"We're going to kill Peter?! No way!!" Harrison yells. Shadow cocks his head to the side. "Oh really? Then I'll just have to pay Nerris a little visit then....."

Harrison sighed angrily. "Why?! It's not like he'll do anything else! He's scared of me! That's the exact reason I even talked to you!"

"We made a deal! If you don't want to hold up your end of it, I might as well kill you now!" Shadow hisses, grabbing Harrison's throat and raising him in the air.

The boy struggled, not being able to breathe. "You're going to do what I say, or you and your girlfriend get killed!" The demon said, not letting Harrison go.

"I.......F-fine!!" Harrison yelled. Shadow dropped him, letting him hit the floor hard. "We'll begin later today. Your class is about to start. Better get going." Shadow said teasingly.

Then he was gone.
