"....what did you just say....?" Nerris asked.

"Shadow is a demon! A demon's full purpose is deceiving! This entire time, he was playing you!" Harrison's mother yelled. His father mumbled something about us being gullible.

That was enough to send Nerris into a spiraling panic attack. "Please tell me we can bring him back. We have to bring him back!" She yelled, tears stinging her eyes.

"Considering what the hell he's been through, it's not likely. I'm sorry that you fell for the simplest trick in the book." Harrison's dad said.

That sent the girl into another fit of tears. "I didn't know! I didn't know about any of this until a couple of days ago!" She yelled.

It truly wasn't her fault, but Harrison's parents didn't agree.

"D-did Shadow even die? Did I do anything good whatsoever?" Nerris asked. They both shook their heads, "No. Shadow very well still exists. He was just set free to prey on another innocent soul."

They weren't having any mercy. "Leave her alone, she didn't know what she was doing, and she meant well!" Nerris' mother yelled.

The other two parents rolled their eyes, "It doesn't matter now! Our son is dead!"

The elfkin girl ran into Preston's arms, him being her only friend left. Preston held her tightly, and looked at Harrison's parents, "Shame on you," Then he looked at Nerris' parents, "We're going for a walk. Please don't be alarmed if she stays with me tonight."

The two kids walked out of the door, Nerris still crying.

They walked down the street, the sobbing girl leaning on Preston's shoulder. "I-I didn't know t-that would happen...I-I'm so sorry...."

Preston shook his head, "It wasn't your fault. It was his parents. They should've told you how dangerous Shadow was. We're the magic kids, we can find a way to get him back." He said reassuringly.

She nodded and wiped her tears, "Yeah. We're the magic kids, we can do this...Maybe we can go to that shady magic shop downtown and get some help."

The shop was, in fact, shady. It sold different sorts of weird potions and gadgets, even books. They planned to go there to find a book on bringing the dead back to life. It wasn't the best plan, but it was all they had.

Nerris luckily had brought extra cash, so did Preston. They walked into the alley shop, the door creaking as they opened it.

"Who's here? You a cop?" A shrill voice came from behind a curtain. Nerris and Preston looked at each other nervously, and proceeded forwards, moving the curtain.

There was a small old lady sitting behind a counter, "Oh, young ones. What can I do for you today?"

Nerris took in a deep breath, "We're looking on how to bring back the dead."

The lady's eyes widened, "Why in the world would some kids like you need a necromancy type book? Unless...unless you did something bad."

Preston stepped forward, "One of our friends died of magical causes. We needed to bring him back." Nerris nodded.

The old lady nodded as well, "I see. Well, let me go look around. Call me if you need me while I'm gone. My name is Myrddin." She scurried off to the back area of the shop, most likely the storage.

Nerris was holding back tears, but she looked around the shop. A particular potion bottle caught her eye. It was labeled, 'Revenge is Sweet'. There was a description under it that read, 'This sweet potion will make whomever wronged you do your bidding, as well as pay for their misdeeds. It will only work if the victim has truly wronged you. If they haven't, the effects of the potion will reverse onto you.'

She made sure Myrddin wasn't around, then she stowed the potion and the description into her small bag.

Preston snuck up behind her and whispered, "That's stealing, Nerris."

Nerris yelped and jumped, "Don't scare me like that!" They both laughed, and the woman came back out with a thick book.

"This is all we have. I hope you kids have money because magic doesn't come at an easy price. You must be very careful about this. It contains years and years worth of spells. If it were to get into the wrong hands, or if you said something incorrectly, you could harm yourselves or others." Myrddin said seriously, putting the heavy book on the counter, "$350."

Nerris and Preston's eyes widened a bit, but they had come prepared with the money. They both handed over $175. The lady nodded, and pushed the book towards them, "May the gods and goddesses be with you both. Good luck. And don't tell anyone you were here."

The kids nodded, and Preston picked up the book, "Thank you, Myrddin."

They walked out of the shop and quickly ran back to Preston's house. They knew it would most likely be chaos at Nerris' place.

They quickly snuck in through the window and placed the heavy book down on his bed. Nerris took out her phone and saw many missed calls and messages from her parents, and multiple voice mails as well.

Nerris sighed, then got a final text message from her mother, 'They called the cops and told them you killed Harrison'. Her eyes widened, she'd left her sword on the scene, so they had evidence too.

"Preston...I'm going to go to jail...this is it..." She said sadly.

Preston's looked over, "No you're not, what makes you say that?"

"They called the cops and told them that I killed him."

"Oh shit..."
