Little Star (Tae)
Close your eyes and listen carefully to my story
Before my story ends, you will dream
Little star tonight
All night, I will watch over you.
Little Star by Standing Egg
"Crap!” I’m late. What happened to my alarm? I ran downstairs. I have to take Mimi to school. And there’s breakfast to be done too. I was still pulling on my shirt when I reached the kitchen. I stopped dead. Mini's in the table fully dressed and eating breakfast talking to Tee earnestly. Tee was replying her endless questions moving about in front of the stove, making pancakes.“Good morning Papa!” Mimi piped when she saw me.
“Morning baby, I see uncle Tee has made you breakfast.” I touched her head. Her bangs well combed and hair perfectly platted. I looked at Tee with a half smile. He’s become so domesticated with Mimi’s arrival. “I'm sorry I over slept” I levelled this to Tee.
“You didn’t P, I switched off it.” He handed me a mug of coffee. I took it gratefully.
“Why did you do that?” I asked leaning back on the chair, since there’s no rush now. Tee came and sat besides me and touched my shoulder.
“Because, you haven’t been having enough sleep lately. You wake up early and come home late. So we let you sleep a bit more, right baby?” he held his fist for Mimi to bump.
“Yes Mommy Tee” She jumped up and bumped his fist with her own little one. I choked on the coffee I was drinking. Mommy Tee? I mouthed at Tee, who shrugged and stood up.
”Want some pancakes?” He asked picking up the spatula. I nodded.
“Papa look!” Mimi tugged my arm. “Look at the funny face mommy Tee drew on my pancakes with chocolate syrup.” She was jabbing her hand at her breakfast. I looked at it.
“Yeah baby it’s so funny” I patted her chubby cheek and she grinned. “Why did you call Uncle Tee, mommy?” I asked carefully.
“Because he’s my mommy” She mumbled poking at her food. “My mommy's not here and I don’t want to be without a mommy.” She spoke through a mouthful of food. “Mommy Tee look after us like my real mommy looked after me.” She stammered through the long sentence. Then she slid down the chair and hugged Tee, looking up at him. Tee dropped the spatula and lifted her up in his arms. “Mommy Tee” She giggled. Tee pinched her nose and put her down.
“Now go get your bag, mommy Tee will drop you to school.” Tee gave her a little push. She started to skip away and then stopped and looked at me.
“Aunty Mo said you will like it” She giggled. I looked at Tee confused. He was biting back a laugh. “Aunty Mo is the one ask me to call Uncle Tee, mommy.” She bit her finger. Of course Mo had to have a hand in this. Tee started laughing aloud while Mimi ran upstairs.
