Dan (1st person)

My eyes open as I'm sprawled on my bed and my eyes take in my surroundings. I look over at my nightstand to see that I'm up at a decent time for once. I get out of bed and change in my soldier uniform. People are talking about the Rebel attack so I have to be ready for what comes. My red badge on my black uniform stands out with a ball of fire in it's center. A knock sounds on my door startling me as I brush my fringe to the left side of my face.

"Come in," I yell and my door creaks open as I peek around my bathroom door frame to see my best friend Chris walk in.

"Hey, babe," Chris says as he flops down on my bed.

I sigh, muttering, "Still too gay for a proper greeting."

"What did you say?" Chris asks, sitting up and looking at me as I step out of my bathroom with a smirk.

"Oh nothing," I reply, smiling. "but we should go downstairs for breakfast." Chris rolls his eyes before following me out of my bedroom. I adjust my uniform multiple times before Chris slaps my hands away from my collar.

"Are you nervous?" Chris asks and I nod slightly.

"A little." We approach the doors and Chris grabs my hand, making me look up at him.

"We can catch one, don't worry," he assures me and I nod before standing straight and entering the dining room, ignoring the way my father looks at me.

"Good morning, Dan. You ready to catch a Rebel?" the King asks me and I look up at him with no reaction present on my face as I walk in and nod. I sit near the head of my table where my father sits with Chris next to me. We all eat breakfast in silence and at one point Chris kicks me under the table before speaking.

"Same plans as always, Your Highness?" Chris politely asks the King and my father nods as I eat.

"Nothing new. What do you think of the plans, Daniel?" he asks and I pinch my lips together as I think of last night.

"Do you want my honest opinion?" I angrily ask and my father gives a disapproving look as I stand up. "We should go and be there before the Rebels arrive."

I walk out of the room and Chris follows me as I go down the halls to the meeting room. Chris tries to keep up with me and opens his mouth to ask what happened before I give him a look that makes him change his mind. I open the door to the meeting room and everyone salutes at me before I dismiss them and we get to work about who's to be where in the city.

In the warehouse, all the Rebels get dressed in the exact same clothes as me; a black hoodie, black jeans, black combat boots, and a deep blue mask. Everyone pulls out weapons from under their cots along with me, putting knives in waistbands and small daggers and smoke bombs in our pockets and boots. I stand up with my mask sitting on top of my head as everyone pulls their mask over their face, hiding their identity. Louise walks up next to me and I nod as a greeting to her.

"Can I have your attention, please?" I say loudly and the chatter in the room dies down as I take in all the identical figures. "As always, the rules are the same. No killing any civilians, keep all personal issues to yourself until after we are all back to safety for we don't want to listen to another breakup over earpieces again, and lastly, don't get caught but today get close to being caught so that the soldiers think they're winning. Let's go kick some royal ass!"

Cheers sound around me as I pull my mask over my face and pull my hood up. I check my earpiece once more before sneaking out of the building and making my way out of range of the warehouse. We all split up throughout the city, surrounding the part of the city closest to the palace.
