Resurgent

Part 2

A few more kids choose, most stay in the same faction, then we are running. I hear a train horn and see it coming. As it gets closer some of the older Dauntless jump on and the transfers fallow.

I run as fast as I can grabbing the handle bar and gracefully pull myself in. I sit alone, being one of the only Abnegation to transfer to Dauntless, so I don't know anyone.

The one Amity transfers slides over to where I am sitting, “Hi, I’m Samantha,” I look up at her and it takes me a second to realize that she is talking to me.

“Hi,” I stare the floor not knowing what to do.

“Is that all you're going to give me? Hi?” she scooches closer to me. Before I get the chance to answer I see some of the older Dauntless jumping off the train. “What the hell are they doing?"

I don't say anything I just get up and walk to the door, I see a roof getting closer and closer. When we get close enough to the roof I jump, falling onto the roof. I hear a scream coming from behind me, I turn my head and see Samantha flying toward me. Before I can move she lands on top of me.

“Are you okay?” I ask her

“I’m fine,” she sees that I’m holding my ankle as she gets up. “Is your ankle alright?” She pulls up my gray slacks and examines it.

“Damn, a stiff is showing some skin?” Some Candor girl said to another Candor boy.

“Don’t make me kick your ass again, Khloe.” Khloe and they guy walk away. The girl offers me her hand to help me up. “I’m Kenzie,” Another Candor.

“William,” I say then I walk over to where some of the Dauntless are standing.

“At the bottom of this building is the rest of the Dauntless members. Our inities have the privilege of jumping first.” A tall woman says, gesturing to the edge of the building.

    Nobody moves, not even the Dauntless borns want to go first. I step forward onto the ledge, take a deep breath, bend my legs and jump. I didn’t give myself time to think about what i might be falling into but when I hit it, it knocks the wind out of me. It's a net. I see a hand and grab it, it’s a good thing I did too because when I tried to stand up i almost fell forward.

I regain my balance and look up, the hand is connected to a huge man, staring at me like I’m a ghost.

“What’s your name?”

I hesitate, this isn’t a hard question. William doesn’t sound right here, “Will,”

“First jumper Will!” The man yells

After me Samantha hits the net then Kenzie, an Erudite boy named Dylan, a Candor boy named Jake, then Ryan, Khloe and some boy named Alex. I didn’t really pay attention to the natural born Dauntless’s names.

“I’m am Uriah and this is Four. We are both Dauntless leaders and we will be training you.”

“I’m assuming the natural born Dauntless don't need a tour so you will be going with Uriah to the dormitory, all of you transfers come with me.” Four takes us on a tour of the compound then takes us to the dormitory.
