'Hurry up, Saba.' Sana muttered angrily as she adjusted her white dupatta on her shoulders.
'One minute, Appi.' Saba replied and began applying lip gloss. Sana rolled her eyes. She doesn't understand why she was getting so overdressed for a simple Haldi function. Sana has worn the same chicken Yellow Kurtha and white pajama. She matched it with simple white dupatta. While her sister, Saba has worn a yellow churidar with pink flowery designs. Sana felt it was overtopped for only ladies function.
'Come.' Sana held the mascara from Saba's hand and dropped it on the dressing table.
'Hey.' Saba protested but Sana doesn't bother and held her hand. Ignoring her sister's whining, she dragged her out of the room.

As they approached Alishba's room they heard the sound of Dholak and women singing in a monotonous, tuneless voice. Sana rang the door-bell. Soon, someone opened the door. The girls looked down and found Misha beaming at them.
'Hello!' Sana greeted her and touched her cheek. Misha smiled and greeted her back. Then, Sana introduced Saba to the little girl. Saba leaned forward and shook hands with her. Sana smiled watching them.
'Sana, Saba.' Aasma appeared and greeted the girls. They hugged, and she welcomed them inside.
The room was high on AC but still felt suffocating with the crowd. Sana fanned her face and looked around. Alishba was sitting on the bed, a huge plastic placed over the bedsheet. She looked uncomfortable sitting over it. Nevertheless, she looked very pretty dressed in simple white and yellow salwar suit. She had no make-up, but the flowery jewelry and the natural glow enhanced her beauty. Sana adjusted her dupatta and along with Saba, they walked towards her.
The girls stood in the queue with other ladies.
Sana smiled at Alishba. She smiled brightly at her. She leaned and took some Haldi paste on her fingers and touched Alishba's cheek, back of her palm. She also touched her Haldi smeared index finger on her nose and Alishba gasped. Sana giggled.
'My turn.' Saba nudged her elder sister with her hip.
'Hey.' Sana frowned but Saba ignored her.

Sometime later, Sana and Saba stood beside Alishba. They clapped along with other girls. The elderly women continued to sing.
'Hello, Sana.'
Sana turned her head and smiled. 'Nanu.' She hugged the elderly woman. Nanu greeted Saba as well. Sana urged them to hug each other.
'Look who is here.' The girls were startled to hear a manly voice. Saba rolled her eyes upon seeing Ramiz.
'Idiot, this is ladies only function.' Saba said bitterly.
'I know.' Ramiz said rolling his eyes, - 'and I am not talking to you.' – Then he looked at Sana and smiled at her. Sana smiled back. He looked at Alishba. Then, Sana felt someone nudge her and she turned her head to look at a grinning Nanu. She smiled back awkwardly.
Sana's heart fell upon seeing Nadia. Ramiz had brought her with him. She happily pushed past Sana and Saba ignoring them as though they didn't exist. Or perhaps she genuinely didn't see them. She sat beside Alishba who began complaining. Sana noted Nadia dressed in airport attire, white tube top matched with a black shrug and black denim. Even though she looked tired from the long flight she looked pretty.
How the hell she always manages to look good? – Sana rolled her eyes, folding her arms across her chest.
Sana stood enviously looking at Nadia posing happily with Alishba. She felt someone stand next to her. She smiled awkwardly as Ramiz smiled brightly at her.
