-Avery's Point of View-

"Hey, Avery," Zayn's voice rang through the hallway as we exit White Umbrella, making the walls tingle and the windows whisper to the outer world.

"Yes?" I keep my eyes forward, avoiding his gaze as I put my foot forward with slow movements, kind to the still weak joints of my ankles.

"I was thinking that we could stop by the bakery and get one of Harry's muffins. They are really good, Aves," His eyes are bolts drilling into me, and my heart squeezes.

"That didn't go well last time, did it?" my voice had a slight edge to it as I cross my arms with à blank stare, and lean my upper back against the wall next to à large cross window.

"Look, I'm sorry Avery. We weren't going for muffins that ti-"

"I am my own person, Zayn," my voice raises and I point my fingers to my chest, my back bent forward. Tears prickle in my eyes, and honestly, I didn't fight them as they sreamed across my nose and Zayn flinches. "There is no need to protect me. I only know three people on the face of this earth. Three, Zayn. I mean, trying to help me learn about things, I get, but why in the world would you protect me. You don't seem like you would hit someone, really."

Zayn rolled his bottom lip in between his teeth, looking thoughtfully at the tiled floor as his eyes closed and his brows found contact with each other. His right hand pushes his black hair to the side, and he finds support on the wall opposite of me. Honestly, it was quite attractive. Then I wondered to any affairs he has had in the past, possibly even now, though I doubt it. My eyes flickered to his once he opens them, his eye lashes concealing contact until they reached the knitted eyebrows, and tears were glazed over them as and shot of pain injectés in me, but my face never falls. "Ouch," he whispers, his arms wrapped behind him.

"You know Zayn," I swallow,"I love you like my own brother, but I'm going to do something on my own."

"And how is that?"

I suck in cold air through my nostrils, the absence of heat tickling the hairs, and consuming my lungs. "It doesn't matter."

~~~
"Oh my gosh, Avery," Farra sighs into the hug, her breath on my back, making my spine tingle as my eyes try to swallow the surrounding. We are at a market. I just so happened to be walking with my head down, my hoodie up, and our shoulders brushed for just à second, but she dropped her 2 liter Mountain Dew, so I turned to say 'sorry' but she was there. "Where is Zayn? Do you need anything?"
I laugh, "Farra, Zayn is fine, and I am fine." She squeezes tighter.
My eyes roam the market, and its neighbors. They land on a frieghtning Orange building with à fake woman on the front with blonde hair chopped off at her ears and heavy eyeliner with Urban Decay written in cursive underneath her. My thoughts wonder to Farra, and it hit me: I want to do something on my own, but I can't, so I have to strike close.
"Farra, can we go in there? I want to do something."
Farra pushes away from me with her hands on my collar bones, her feet a foot away from mine, and he eyes squint, shielding the blazing Sun as she smiles. "Ulta? Well, sure," She pushes my shoulder playfully with à smile and laughs,"Always wanted à little shopping time with le Aves."
My lips tip up, my cheeks scrunching and Farra is off, walking à little too fast for my liking.
~~~

"Now, hold still," à cold rushing combs through my foamed hair, escaping my scalp and into the brows of my eyes, and the crease of my nose. He fingers massage my roots as the foam gathers at the bottom of the tub, and it's very hard to breathe.

"Farra. This is uncomfortable," My voice shakes.

She sighs, her hands twisting my hair around her fingers,"I know, Avery. It'll be worth it."

-

I look in the mirror, my mouth dropped, my eyes opened wider than I ever expérienced. I love the new lavender strings falling down my shoulders like an enchanted waterfall, almost as much as I loved the indépendant feeling tingling inside of my being.

"Farra?"

"Yes?" à smile reflected through the mirror.

"I look hot," À joyful noise escaped my pink lips, and a tear fell through my lids, right as the brightest smile I have given someone broke free.

I am broke free.
