Let the sky fall, when it crumbles we will stand tall, face it all together
I HESITATE AS I STAND IN FRONT OF BELLAMY'S tent, debating whether I really wanted to do this.
I knew I should but apologizing was not really my strong suit. Slowly I peel the flap open and step in. Bellamy was laying on his back shirtless, on his makeshift bed, which admittedly looked pretty comfortable given that we were all practically laying on the ground. How he managed that was a mystery to me.
He jolts upright at the sound of my entrance. My eyes flicker to his bare chest again. His eyes lock with mine, surprise and confusion flooding his features.
"Hey," I say hesitantly. "Uh... Monty told me what happened with the wristbands."
He was now sitting, just staring at me not saying a word.
I bite my lip and swallow. "Look, I... I'm sorry. For accusing you, I just—"
Bellamy stands up and makes his way towards me. His expression is unreadable. My breathing hitches as he gets closer. I was painstakingly aware that he was half naked. "No, Kat, I'm sorry." He breathes.
My eyebrows furrow inward and my heart pounds in my chest. "Wha–You don't have to apologize for anything."
"Yes, I do. For making you believe that I would only act like I cared about you to get your wristband."
I stare at him, seeing the Bellamy that I had gotten only glimpses of before. The one that didn't act like he was king of this camp. The one that didn't look like a self-serving jackass—as Monty once put it. This was the Bellamy that sat with me on my birthday and then again on tree. I hadn't noticed how close we were standing to each other until he reaches up to brush my hair out of my face.
"Kat..." he starts.
"Bellamy!" Someone yells from outside his tent. We jump apart. "Bellamy!" They yell again. This time, I could recognize Octavia's voice.
Bellamy glances over at me briefly, as I stand there catching my breath, before he grabs a shirt and turns to leave his tent. I follow him out. My blood pressure settling.
Octavia stood with wide-eyed before us. She points to the night sky in awe. I follow her finger, but it was hard not to miss the object that was burning through the atmosphere. My own mouth falls open in wonder. What the hell was it? Another dropship? No, it was too small, it looks more like a pod of some kind.
Everyone at camp was craning their heads to look up at the sky with a mixture of amazement and hope. We watch as it comes closer and closer until a loud crashing sound indicates that it had hit the ground a couple of miles away.
At that moment the camp buzzes with activity. Everyone seemed to be packing and gathering supplies to make their way to the spacecraft. Whatever the Ark sent must be important. I think we were all hoping for some decent tents or blankets. Any supplies would help.
Everyone was ecstatic—well, everyone except for Bellamy.
The moment that thing hit the ground he barked at his groupies to follow him into the command tent. His face contorts in what I could only make out to be frustration. Wanting to know why he was so moody all of a sudden I follow them into the tent. Bellamy just stood there, staring off into the distance with his hand underneath his chin appearing to be deep in thought. The rest of the boys stood around awaiting Bellamy's orders on what to do next.
"We should get moving," Octavia walks into the space then, excitement in her voice. "Everyone's ready."
Bellamy snaps his head up at her and shakes his head. "No one's going anywhere. Not while it's dark, it isn't safe. We'll head out at first light. Pass the word." The boys beside him nod and walk out of the tent. Bellamy begins walking out too.
Octavia exhales and blocks Bellamy's exit. "Everyone for a hundred miles saw this thing come down. What if the grounders get to it first? Bell, we should go now."
"I said we wait till sunrise," He asserts aggressively.
I narrow my eyes at the elder Blake sibling. Why was he so adamant about waiting? Octavia has a point about the Grounders. Anyone could have seen or heard this thing coming down within a hundred-mile radius. If we sent a large enough group then we'd be protected against a potential Grounder attack and get whatever was in that pod by morning.
Octavia rolls her eyes before storming off.
"She has a point," I say.
Bellamy gives me an exasperated look. He grabs a backpack at the edge of the tent, but I yank it out of his hands.
"Hey!" He shouts, trying to get the pack back. Guess he was back to being a dick. "Give it back, Kane."
He knew I hated being called that. Why was he suddenly so cold? I clench my jaw. "What are you doing? We need to go to that pod."
Bellamy doesn't respond. He steps toward me and I take a step back. He raises his eyebrows, asking nonverbally if we are going to do this dance. I stand my ground, giving him my answer. If I had to dance with him all night to get some answers out of him then hell yes we were doing this.
"Bellamy!" Someone purrs from the entrance of the tent. I quickly recognize Roma, a girl that I had seen often back in lockup but never spoken to. She saunters over to Bellamy, laying a hand seductively on his chest as she closes the distance between them. Roma presses her body onto him, reaching up on her tippy-toes to speak closer to his ear. "I went by your tent, but you weren't there."
Bellamy's eyes stay on me. A hard expression on his face as if he was watching my face intently.
"Sky and I are getting lonely. Come on," Roma coos. "Let's go while everyone is busy with this stupid pod business." Noticing that Bellamy wasn't looking at her, Roma turns to face me. She gives me a sly smile. "Sorry, you can have him another night."
I scoff, pushing the backpack into Bellamy's arms as I pass him. I didn't even look at him. "No thanks. Have fun."
I was not sure why I felt so bothered, so angry—I just knew that I was. Probably because I was tired of being the only person to think about others— to do what was best for our people like my father had told me. Yeah that was it. That pod should be our main priority, but like always Bellamy was being selfish. Maybe it was time that I was selfish too.
I march over to Sebastian's tent. He was sitting on the ground using a knife to carve some wood. He looks up startled at my sudden entrance and stands up briskly.
"Hey, Kat." His eyebrows furrow in confusion as I close the distance between us. "What are you—"
I crash my lips onto his.
He doesn't react at first, but slowly his lips start moving with mine. Sebastian's hands reach up and tangle in my hair. Our bodies curve together, pressing every inch of ourselves closer. He pulls his mouth away from mine for a second. "Not that I'm complaining but what happened?"
"Sounds like your complaining." I breathe, pulling my shirt over my head.
Sebastian looks down at my body. He shakes his head, pulling me back into a kiss. I grab the hem of his T-shirt taking it off for him. We fall back on the ground covered in blankets. I straddle him, never breaking apart our kiss. His hands grip my waist and mine go down to unbutton his pants.
