Miley’s p.o.v
Maybe it wasn’t in my best interest to be in Nick’s house alone. I just needed to talk to someone, and considering we used to talk about everything…I thought it could be like old times again. All I could think of were the memories and history Nick and I had shared together.
“Want anything to eat or drink?” Nick asked.
“I don’t think this is a good idea…I should leave.”
“Wait, no.” Nick said walking over towards me. “No one is going to come by. Olivia is at her place tonight. You don’t have to worry about that.”
“That’s not what I am worried about…”
“Are you okay?” He asked grabbing some water from the fridge.
“I just have a lot on my mind.” I sighed sitting down at the kitchen counter.
“What is going on?” He asked leaning against the counter in front of me. He handed me a bottle of water and watched me intensely.
“Everything has turned to shit” I breathed.
“You mean with Liam?” He asked raising his eye brows. “He cheated on you?”
“I, I don’t know. I haven’t talked to him about it.”
“So the pictures aren’t proof enough?” He breathed. He looked angry, but I brushed it off.
“You know how the media is…they twist things to start drama and rumors.” I pleaded. I know that I was defending Liam, again…but defending him was all I ever did these days and it’s all I have ever known.
“That is true, but those pictures aren’t photo shopped. You are just making excuses for him.” Nick breathed. “Like always” he rolled his eyes.
“I don’t think you understand.” I spoke up. I knew I didn’t want to go there with this conversation but I needed someone to talk to about this. I felt like I was trapped and no one cared. But, Nick was here and it seemed like he cared.
“I do actually. You have always done this, you change yourself to make the guy like you more. You let him walk all over you, because you don’t want him to leave you. I don’t think you realize that the way he treats you isn’t right. You should be treated better than that. Liam isn’t the first guy you let walk all over you.” Nick paused.
“Maybe you feel the need to change who you are, because that is all you have ever known. In a relationship, you should be able to be yourself. It seems that your whole life you have been acting the way people want, but never actually being yourself. You love to shock and surprise people because you think that is the only thing that you are good at, but that isn’t true. You are the most amazing person I have ever met, and I don’t regret anything about us. I do regret the fact that we have lost touch over the years…but that’s life. I know you, I know the real you and I am grateful and lucky that I have seen the real you.” Nick said. He was genuine and honest. And, he was also correct about everything.
“You are right…” I sighed. “I have been hiding the real me because I have been scared that people won’t like me. But, I can’t live like that anymore. Especially with Liam.” I sighed.
“Then why are you still with him? Why are you still defending him?” He asked with a sigh.
“Because, I…I guess I feel that I would be nothing without him. I know that he has cheated on me before, and we broke up. Then he begged to have me back. I was confused and he promised things would be so different. We have been distant for a while now and, I have tried everything. I know that I should have never taken him back, things were different at first. We barely talk and I barely know him. If I leave him, I will be alone and everything will be even worse.” I sighed. I was frustrated and I didn’t know what to do.
“I know I don’t need a man to be happy, and that isn’t why I won’t end things. My parents and family love him…my fans and friends love him. I will look like the bad guy.”
“Miley, this is your life not theirs.” Nick said. “I am not going to tell you what to do…that is up to you. I will support you no matter what. At the end of the day, just make sure that you are happy. This is your life, you can do whatever you want, and you can be whoever you want. You shouldn’t be with someone just to make others happy. You are allowed to have feelings.” He said.
I nodded in agreement. I knew that he was right, he always was. My phone started ringing so I pulled it out of my pocket and answered it.
“Hello” I answered the phone.
“Miley, babe.” Liam started. “We need to talk…”
“I agree” I breathed.
“You know” He sighed. He didn’t seem surprised. “I am going to catch the red eye so I will see you tomorrow morning.”
“Okay.” I said before hanging up. I wasn’t thrilled, in fact I didn’t know what to feel.
“That was him wasn’t it?” Nick asked once I was off the phone.
“Yeah.” I nodded.
“Just remember that you deserve to be happy.” He smiled softly.
“Thanks Nick” I smiled back. No matter what, he could always me smile. It was mostly the sparkle in his eyes and the bright smile he gave that made it contagious.
I stood up off the bar stool and gave him a hug. His arms wrapped tightly around me and filled me with warmth, a warmth that I had never felt before. I fit perfectly in his arms, I loved the way his muscular arms wrapped tightly around me. His body was so much more attractive then…Liam. I felt so satisfied with the feelings that came over me. I smiled as I hugged him tighter.
“I’ve missed you, Nick.”
“I’ve missed you more, Miley.” We slowly let go of each other of what felt like forever.
“I should go…but, I hope that we can stay in touch.” I said grabbing my bag.
“Yeah, I hope so too.” He smiled. “You can always call me, I’ll always be here for you.”
“Nick, I hope you know that I am grateful to have you in my life. And, I will always be there for you. No matter what it is…I mean it.” I smiled before walking out of the door.
I hope that he knows that I mean it. He has always been there for me, and sometimes I worry that he doesn’t have anyone to talk to. He is always serious and private about things. I feel like the only person that he has ever let into his world. I forgot what it was like to have a friend that you care so much about whom actually cares about you.
