Paul and Jane dropped me off at my house and left quickly after. I dragged myself into the kitchen where my mother was talking on the phone and drinking coffee.
I gave a small smile and she covered the mouth piece, mouthing "You're father". I gave a understanding nod and grabbed a cup of tea before I headed up to my room. That was the night I swore to myself never to talk to John again.--------A Few Years Later--------
As the years passed, things changed. I didn't see much of John, but I had heard he knocked some bird up and was going to marry her. Did that hurt me? No. The more I avoided him, the less I felt for him.
Ringo... Well I don't really have the proper words to describe what we've come to. He was an amazing drummer, friend, and on occasion, lover. It just sort of happened one time and we never decided to do anything about it, letting it happen more frequently. I wasn't complaining.
Then there's Geo. George was still one of my go to friends and was constantly at my house. My mother was always asking when I would open my eyes and date him. Then I'd have to explain to her that we were only friends. Which we did stay, Just Friends.
Paul and Jane were still going strong. The only thing wrong with that picture was Jane constantly droning on about marriage. Paul wasn't ready for marriage, which was understandable. He was young and wanted to live.
And me, well, I was happy. I had everything a girl could ask for. I had even gotten a job as a waitress in the local diner. I had a good life.
That was before he walked through the doors. He hadn't really changed, except for the way he wore his hair.
I sighed and forced myself to walk over, keeping my eyes on the pad in my hands, "What can I get you to drink?"
"A Coke's fine," He said. He sounded different, he wasn't as chipper as he used to be. I glanced up at him and smiled a little, "I'll be right back with that."
I went into the small waitress station and grabbed a coke before returning to his table, "You ready to order?"
"This'll be all, Thanks Jude," He smiled up at me.
"Not a problem, John," I smiled back and glanced up at the window. It had started pouring. "Looks like we're closing early, Pattie!" I called as I started toward the kitchen.
"Need a ride?" John asked, opening the bottle.
"No, I just need to call Ringo," I smiled a little, trying my best to be polite.
"So you and him are still.." He trailed off as he brought the bottle to his lips.
"Friends, yes," I said and took my apron off as I went behind the counter to the phone. I called Richard and told him to come pick me up, he agreed. After hanging up, I slid into the seat across from John.
"So who's that girl you're marrying?" I asked, smiling as I folded my hands.
"Nancy," He said and looked out the window with a sigh.
I frowned and nodded, "Congrats.."
Before he could say anything else a horn broke the silence.
"I'll see you around. Good luck with the family," I said as I patted his shoulder and left.
