As I skated around the park I noticed a curly headed guy also skating.

We were on the same path as he came up beside me.

"Jack Avery" He smiled, extending his hand for me to shake as he effortlessly balanced on the board.

"Y/N Y/L/N" You smiled back, shaking his hand.

"I noticed that you are a really good skater" He complimented.

"You're not so bad yourself"

We skated some more, laughing and telling funny stories, we told each other stuff about our families and our hobbies.

After two hours I felt like I've known him for my entire life.

As we went to the skate park I saw my abusive ex.

I stopped talking instantly, frozen on my board as it glided down the smooth pavement.

"Y/N?" Jack spoke, his eyes following my own. "Dylan?" He asked.

Slowly, I nodded my head.

"How do you know him? He's my friend" He smiled. Dylan looked in our direction, giving a smile to Jack and a small nod, then his eyes fell on me. Consumed by darkness, his eyes starred me down, Shivers ran down my spine. "Hey, what's wrong?" His words startled me and I lost balance, falling off the side of my board, Jack stopped instantly and came to help me. "Hey... what's up?" He asked me, concerned as his eyes scanned my face.

"D-dylan is my uh..." I suddenly felt uncomfortable, Dylan was his friend, should I tell him the truth?

"Hey its okay, you can tell me anything" He smiled at me, a sense of relief came over my body.

"You have to promise you won't get mad or rat me out" I whispered, Dylan was scarry,  I didn't want him knowing I blabber about our past and what he done.

"Promise"

"Dylan my abusive ex..." I mumbled, hoping he wouldn't catch it. Unfortunately the look on his face said otherwise.

Lifting my jacket, I showed him the bruises and scars I still had from him. Jacks face fell, sadness is what his lips sad, pure rage was in his eyes.

"He's dead" He muttered, he started to turn away from me but I grabbed his arm to stop him.

"You promised" I whisper yelled, feeling as though I was about to cry, somewhat from how scared shit less I was.

"Look we are going over to face him, I'll go as a supportive friend if you want"

"Will you?"

"Of course" He smiled. Sucking in a deep breath, I lifted myself off the cement and stepped back on my board.

"Let's go" I whispered, petrified of the past, of Dylan.

"Aye! What's up Dyl!?" Jack greeted Dylan, fake enthusiasm evident in his voice. Giving him a bro hug, Dylan turned to me.

"Hey sweetheart" his voice was soft as he raised his index finger and thumb under my chin. Flinching, as a now natural reflect, Jack 'acted' confused. I backed away from him and looked at Jack, he was about to kill Dylan.

"Oh right, this is my beautiful girlfriend Y/N!" He added, wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me close to his side. I sent him a confused look but went with it, leaning in closer to him, planting a small peck on the cheek. Something about it felt right, like I was meant to be with Jack instead of Dylan.

After getting unrelenting stares from Dylan, me and Jack skated around for a bit, before I fell again.

Jack and Dylan ran up to me, Jack bending down beside me.

"Oh my gosh! Are you alright?" Jack asked.

"She always used to love kisses when she got hurt, isn't that right Y/N?" He smirked.

"What was that man?" Jack asked, irritated.

"Usually a kiss helps her feel better" He repeated, shrugging his shoulders.

"It's fine" I mumbled, hating how much Dylan still knows about me.

I started walking away when Jacks hand laced with mine, pulling me backwards into his arms.

Looking confused, Jack only smiled before his lips pressed against mine.
Instantly returning the gesture, I kissed him back.

Dylan looked to me, head slightly slanted to the left, if looks could kill I would he dead. He shared glances between me and Jack.

"Nu uh" I mumbled, his hand raised to my chest, pointing at me. I backed away, leaving Jacks side as Dylan backed me against a wall. "My punishments weren't enough for you were the Y/N!?" He yelled, his face inches from mine, pinning my hands against the wall, I turned away from him.

His hand raised in the air and all the memories came flooding back, how I walked in on him and some girl in our bed, him screaming at me and saying it was my fault, getting drunk then hitting me. It was an endless, violent cycle.

Before his hand made contact with my face, a hand grabbed his.

Jack.

I opened my eyes to see Dylan fall to the ground as Jacks arm retreated back to his side.

Throwing my arms around his neck, I hugged him.

"I promise he will never hurt you again"

"Will you?"

"I will" He smiled, pulling away from the hug but pushing back in for another kiss.
