I noticed the sudden shift in the atmoshper. I was sharing space with another wolf.
My ear twitched in the direction of a snapping twig. It was a male, he lurking in the shadows of the woods, circling the opening I sat in. The crunching of leaves gave away his location, but it seemed as if he wanted it to. He wasn't being careful, or stalking properly.
My snout lifted to the air, finding the new intruders scent. He smelt of spruce and smoke, earth and water. He wasn't suposed to be here.
"This is Oak territory. You're trespassing," I told him through the telopathic link.
"What's a pretty girl like you doing out here, all alone?" His angelic voice filled my head. It made me go crazy.
"Trying to find peace and quiet," I answered truthfully. He chuckled.
"Peace and quiet can come at a price," he threatened me.
"Stop lurking in the shadows, Alpha. Come out and let me see you," I asked him. I circled to take in all my surroundings, but he had the benifit of the dark.
"I can see you perfectly," he snickered, "A pearly white coat of fur, emerald green eyes, a gushing wound on your back leg. Who hurt you?" his voice taunted.
"You should know. Spruce pack is never true to their word," I accused him and his pack. I knew it was one of his pack, it had to be.
"Really? Describe this wolf to me," he insisted.
"Let me see you first," I beckoned him. A snap sounded behind me, my mind going into alert. I turned to see my intruder. His thick black coat glistened in the sun, grey eyes with dashes of yellow, a scar just under his left eye. Something inside my chest shifted. My heart beat sped faster then I could run. I sniffed the air around me, the smell of spruce and wet earth filling my nose.
My mate.
Something inside him physically changed, his once cold, daring eyes turned soft for a moment.
The moment passed by quicker then I could blink, hearing numerous paws beating against the ground.
"Your pack!?" I felt panic and anger serg my body, "I have to go," I spoke quickly as his pakc neared.
"No! Please!" he begged me.
"They'll kill me then go for my pack! Mate or not, my pack comes first!" I yelled at him. His eyes closed as he flinched, causing a burning pain in my chest.
"I've waited so long to find you, please, don't go!" he whimpered, rushing closer to me. He nuzzled my snout; I closed my eyes in content before being ripped back into reality. A sharp howel echoed through my ears, reminding me to run without a second thought.
"Wait!" He screamed after me, trying to match my speed. As future pack leader, I couldn't lead them to our hideout.
I jumped over fallen logs and weaved my ways through the trees. I took them on the least used path, leading them to the highway.
I felt my mate gaining speed the more I ran. He was Alpha of his pack, I was meant to be his Luna, mother nature had weird affects on werewolf kind: telepathic comunications, incredible speed (only matched by our mate), but also the fact we only had one soul mate, when away form that soulmate, our bodies fall ill and in pain. We hurt physically and mentally when away and I would feel it soon.
I made my way to the highway, the sky going from bright oranges and pinks to dark blues; almost black. I turned to see my mate who had stopped at the tree line, staying hidden amoung the dark. My paws stepped onto the concrete. I wasn't paying close enough attention as a loud noise echoed before I was hit; my world turned dark as I hurled to the opposite side of the road. Seeing a light drive away as my eyes slowly closed.
