You walked down the hallway with your head hanging low, the muffled noise of the students in your ears as you thought.
He doesnt care
The thought ran through your head like it was a song on repeat.
Best friend? Isn't that what he was supposed to be?
You didn't even know what he was supposed to be anymore. Your mind was blank as you walked out of school. The pitter patter of rain hitting the pavement soothed you. Slowly, you walked down the steps, nothing keeping you from the rain but your normal clothes. Students filtered out of the doors, passiong by you in a blurr, you didnt notice though, being to enveloped in your thoughts.
You said you would be there for me
Daniel called after you, rushing to your side. As he ran towards you, the rain splashed under his feet, trying to escape the weight, something you wish you could do. You turned to face him, the tears invisible against the rain, rosy cheeks and pink nose because of the brisk wind, only thing evident to crying was red eyes. And he didn't notice. He never notices.
"H-hey" he stuttered as he tried to catch his breath.
"Hi" you replied, barely a whisper. Your voice cracked, telling you it couldn't be trusted, so you lowered your head and continued walking.
"Would you stop for a minute!" He heived, still short winded, you slowly stopped, turning your head to the side, looking at him from the corner of your eye. His wet hair fell over his forehead, his hand raised in the air, like he was holding you by the force, he was bent over himself, his blue eyes shot up to meet yours, in which you looked back around.
"I got to get home" you muttered and walked on.
"At least tell me what I did!" he yelled, throwing his hands in the air before slapping them against his soaking body, "Tell me why you are trying to throw away nine years of friendship"
You turned on your heels, walking back towards him. You felt your eyes were puffy, your breathing shallow, your chest felt tight as your heart felt hurt.
"Me!? Me throwing away nine years of friendship! Daniel James Seavey you know damn well I alwasy have and always will need you, you know how much I valued our damn frienship, so don't point fingers at me, saying that I threw it away!" you yelled at him. Running both hands through your hair, you let in a shakey breath, "For once, just look at what you did" you breathed out, looking up at him. His jaw was clenched as he gritted his teeth back and forth. He wouldnt look you in the eyes, "for once, just notice me" you whimpered.
"Notice you?" he questioned, "Y/N all I ever did was notice you, all I ever did was want you. I notice your smile, I notice how bright it is, I notice the dimples that you complain about to me, I notice how your eyes, I notice the color, and I swear its the most y/e/c i've ever seen" he paused, voice cracking as he stood there, saying all these things to you as you both stood in the middle of the street, in the rain, with nothing but a sweater and jeans. He drawed in a breath as he started to continue, "I notice your laugh, the way it makes others smile around you, I notice how you fidget with your fingers when you are nervous but refuse to pick at your fingernails, I notice how you twirl your hair when you are tryingto flirt, I notice how you talk, about everyting. How you get into the music when it sings, when you dance, I notice. I notice how your hips sway perfectly, or how your feet move. I notice those damn tears, your puffy eyes, your pink nose and cheeks right now. I know that its not because of the cold too" he ended.
"Why did we get so distant then? If you noticed everything then you surely should have noticed by now" You asked, shaking your head.
"Of course I noticed. I'm not stupid. I noticed how you looked at me, or how you always wanted me to sing and dance with you, or how supportive you are. i noticed that you like me" he conquered. Your heart broke more, thinking your frienship was going to be completely over, but as he stepped closer to your shaking body, as he placed a hand on your cheek, as he brought your lips up to his, as you stood on your tippy toes, you knew it couldn't be. "I noticed how much I love you, and knew how much that terrified me" he breathed. Grabbing your dripping hand, he started pulling you towards his house. "Lets get out of the rain before you get sick. You can stay the night with me" he smiled as he unlocked the door to his house.
He brought you upstairs to his room, even though you have been there a million times, you haven't been there for three months. Everything changed, pictures were on his wall now, your matching bean bags were in the corner together, the baseball hat you gave him was hanging on his wall, but the main thing you noticed was the pictures. As he disappeared into his bathroom, you walked over to them.
Seeing majority of them were of you two, back in the days, when you were just 8 years old, he, of course, was 9. You were wearing his baseball cap that was too big on you, it fell over your eyes, being the gentlmen he was, Daniel crouched down to get eye level with you, peeking under the cap, lifting it at the beak to see your happy smile. You never knew that picture existed. Or the one at your birthday party when you were sixteen, Daniel sat beside you, party caps on both your heads, the cheekiest grin on your face, as you placed cake frosting on Daniels nose, the picture next to it was of him putting even more frosting on yours, you were laughing as he tried.
Tears welded in your eyes, he never forgot.
But what are we now?
You heard his throat clear behind you, turning, you saw him leaning against the door frame, small smirk plastered on his face as a small blush rose to your cheeks. He was shirtless.
He extended a dry shirt and a pair of his sweat pants towards you. You walked over and took them, whispered a small 'thank you' as you walked past, almost hitting him, as you went into the bathroom.
You changed into the dry clothes, keeping your underwear which wasn't soaked to terribly bad on underneath. The shit was a bit baggy so you tied in into a knot at the front. It lifted a bit over your belly button but it was okay.
As you walked out, Daniel was still at the door. As you went to pass by him, he grabbed you by your waist. As he spun you around, pinning you against the door frame, placing a hand on the frame to keep you in place, he placed his lips on yours.
You spaired no time to return the gesture. Your hands intertwined behind his neck, pulling him in closer towards you as you two kissed. It was harsh but passionate. One hand played with the hair on the bottom of his neck as the other tugged slightly on the tuffs of hair ontop of his head.
"I'm sorry" he mumbled against your lips when you two slowed down.
"For?" you replied. Now your lips were seperated, but your foreheads were pressed together.
"Making it seem like i didn't like you anymore" he frowned, ashamed.
You leaned forward, giving him another little peck, his lips followed yours as you pulled away, hungery for more. "Sorry for getting distant" also apologized.
"Be my girlfriend?" he asked. You smiled and shook your head a little as you laughed.
"I'll think about it Seavey" you mocked him, using his old nickname.
"Oh shut up" he laughed, kissing you again.
"Yes" you finally agreed as you pulled away again.
