His name was Jack Avery, the cool kid in school, Mr.Popular, the guy every girls wants to get with.
The guy only one girl can have.
I can say it with a straight face, I don't like him, I can also say the same for him.
Jack Avery hates my guts.
Why?
I don't know.
How do you know?
The bruises, not only the ones that mark my skin, but also the internal kind, the ones everyone has, the ones no one every notices but does at the same time.
A not-so long time ago, we used to be best friends, we had the piratical, typical, next door neighbor relationship because we were neighbors at one point in time, before he moved to the more sketchy part of town.
We weren't heartbroken at the fact he was moving because we lived in a small town, we went to the same school, and our moms were best friends, it wasn't going to be the end of everything.
He still comes to my house every Friday night for a 'family game night' even though our dads sat on the back porch and drank a little bit of beer while our moms just drank traditional wine, all our siblings hung out together and seeing as me and Jack were the same age, we hung out together, usually without his sisters or mine, but the odd time, they would join.
It was the last week of school, now I'm free of this hell hole forever, but now its off to a bigger and well, hopefully better, hell, also known as college.
I had one more day to survive Jack Avery and his horrid girlfriend for one more week.
"Hey Loser" he greeted, knocking me down to the ground and scattering my books everywhere along the floor.
"What do you want Avery" I spat as his girlfriend cam e to his side, giving him a quick smirk as she kissed his cheek.
"What do you want? You aren't important" she sneered, looking me up and down.
"For you to leave me the fuck alone" gathering my books, I started to get back up. Almost steady on my feet, Jack pushed me back down against the lockers. My head snapped back against them, my eyesight was covered with little dots, my head felt dizzy and I swear I could taste blood in my mouth. Crouching down in front of me, Jack came eye level with me.
"Don't you ever, I repeat, EVER disrespect her" he snapped, his voice full rage, eyes filled with fire.
"SO it's okay for you to abuse me every fucking day of my life, give me bruises and cuts, give me dark thoughts, give me doubts about myself and everything is still fucking peachy!? But oh no! Someone says the smallest thing to your fake ass girlfriend and all hell just has to brake loose!? Jack Avery you are one fucked up bastard!" I yelled, causing him to stumble backwards and gain weird looks from passing students. "Stay the fuck away from me and I'll stay away from you." I added as I walked away to my next class, English.
*Later that night*
The door bell rang so I had to get up and get it since my parents were out on a business trip.
"Coming!" I yelled as I ran down the stairs. I was wearing a pair of really short black shorts, and a baggy sweater, my hair was tied up in a messy bun and I was wearing my glasses.
I almost tripped over the last step of the stairs but I survived, barely.
My dog was jumping up and down, scratching at the door as she barked her little head off.
Opening the door just a little, I poked my head out. No one was outside. I opened the door and walked out, closing it behind me. Unfortunately, it closed on me. Unfortunately, it locked, and I didn't have my keys, and my phone was inside. Great.
I sighed and started walking to the Avery's house since they have the spare key.
i was about three blocks away when I noticed a dark figure walking behind me. I quickened my pace as the dark hooded figure did the same. I looked back to see him looking at me already. He didn't look away when he was caught, just walked even faster. He looked older, maybe in his thirties, early forties. My stomach did a flip and heart felt like it jumped into my throat.
The man smiled before I broke out into a run. I was two blocks away from Jacks house, but with the distance the man was in, I wouldn't have time to knock and wait. I would have to quit literally break into his house and risk seeing him and his girlfriend but right now, I didn't care.
I saw Jacks house and ran faster, the man got closer but was slowing down, this was my window of opportunity.
Being on the track team really came in handy.
I reached Jacks house and tried the door, it was locked. The guy was still running at me when I noticed an open window. It was an easy climb, just up a tree and onto the closest branch and in.
Being my only choice I started to climb.
The guy started to climb up the tree just as I reached the window, i couldn't see anything inside because it was pitch black. Jumping in, I turned and slammed the window shut, just as he got ready to jump in.
"What the hell!" Someone from inside the room yelled.
"SHhh!" I shushed, i noticed the voice to be Jacks.
"What the hell are you doing here!?" He whisper yelled at me, rubbing his eyes and sitting up I started to walk to this bedroom door.
"Look I'm sorry but look out your window" doing as I asked, he looked out the window to see the man just sitting there, watching.
"What the fuck is going on? Did you get in a mishap with your drug dealer or something?" he asked, climbing out of bed, he slipped on a pair of convenient sweatpants, "And what the hell are you wearing?"
"Someone came to my door but no one was there when I answered so then i walked out just a little and the door shut behind me and I got locked out. I remembered your mom has a spare key so I started to walk over here when he followed me. I was about two blocks away when he started running after me, your door was locked so i had no other choice then to climb through the window and oh my god" I finished, losing my breath I started to hyperventilate.
"Hey, hey it's okay, he can't hurt you now okay?" Jack pulled me into a hug, I put my arms between us so there was some space.
"What are you doing?"
"It's called being a good person" he replied.
"A good person. Sure" I pushed him away from me and walked back to his door.
"Whats that supposed to mean?"
"You know what it means Jack" I spat.
I opened the door but his hand wrapped around my wrist and pulled me back once again. His lips crashed against mine, shocking me and leaving me confused, but I didn't miss the chance to kiss him back.
I pulled away and left him there in shock, I'm guessing he either didn't know why he did what he just did, or why i kissed back.
'Fuck with his head' the voices told me.
I walked down the stairs to his house and called my best friend to come pick me up once I got the keys.
not even five minutes later, she was knocking at the door.
