Ignis Fatuus

I mistook the keen edge of a dagger
To be the silver lining on the clouds.

I overlooked the helping hand next to me
As I reached the incessant stretch of gellid seas for a saviour.

I fell for the shadows
When my heart yearned for light.

I held on for far too long,
The Moon's wrong side.

I lied to myself through shivering
Lips that I was strong.

I hide in a hard shell
To protect my contrasting reality.

I try to withstand hurricanes,
Only to find myself standing in its eye.

I pry open my heart
Yet only to find a spark of hope drowning in a deep, crimson sea.
