"Erudite and Abnegation have an ongoing problem, that is more than clear. And we've agreed that we would much rather have the Erudite running our city, than Abnegation. Therefore we've teamed up." Stephen told me.

I frowned. "Teamed up?"

"We are working together to over throw Abnegation. It's clear from all of the reports that the Stiff's have been keeping food for themselves, not helping the rest of the city out like they claimed. Hell, there was even rumours of child abuse.. And Jeanine is certain that a lot of Divergent's are being hidden within the boring grey walls out there." Stephen waved his hand in the direction of the Abnegation compound. "Abnegation aren't the type of leaders that this city need. We need ones like Erudite, that have knowledge. They know what we need. They know how a city should be run."

I slowly nodded. I didn't agree with this. The Abnegation weren't that selfish, were they? It didn't seem likely. I always thought that the reports were Erudite bullshit because Jeanine was a bitch. But, being a Dauntless leader made it harder for me to tell them this. They were all clearly on Erudite's side. With the exception of Angelina, and well, I didn't know with Eric.

"So, how are we going to overthrow them, and what will we do with them afterwards? I mean, each Faction has it's job... what will theirs be?"

Stephen's face suddenly held a very serious expression, and it caused my heart to sink in my chest.

"Jac, it won't be as easy as you think. Currently, we're still working on a plan with Erudite... but it seems like we're going to have to send a Dauntless army over into Abnegation."

"An army?"

"Yes." Stephen nodded. "Erudite are going to overthrow Abnegation by using a Dauntless army to get rid of the stiffs."

"Get rid?" I frowned again. "You're going to kill them..."

I did my best to seem surprised by this, after all Angelina had already told me once. But hearing it from Stephen too was still a bit of a shock. It was really happening.

"Yeah." Stephen nodded.

"It's the only way." Max added, his arms folded across his chest as he leaned back into his chair.

I swallowed. So many innocent people were going to be killed. "Will the Dauntless actually go along with this? It doesn't seem likely to me, I mean they won't want to go on an Abnegation killing spree..."

"Probably not." Stephen shrugged.

"Then how?"

"Jeanine's got a theory. She's been working on it herself over the last few months. A serum. It gives us control over the Dauntless' minds, and they do whatever we want." Stephen answered.

I raised my eyebrows, could that actually work? "But do you know if it actually works?"

"Jeanine's tested it out on a few people, and she's had to make a few changes, but shes very close to getting it right. The only thing she's still got to work on is trying to control the Divergent's. The serum won't work on them." Max explained. "Which, comes in handy for us, because if we have any Divergent's in our faction, then we can just kill them."

I slowly nodded. "So... Let me just go over this again, you're going to give a Dauntless army a serum to control their minds, kill any Divergent's, order the army to kill the Stiff's, then what?"

"Then we bring them back here, allow Jeanine to announce her role as the new leader of the city, then work alongside her."

"Aren't you worried about what the Dauntless will think when they wake up?"
