(Alexis' POV)

"Ah, David, you're here. Good. I was beginning to think you got lost on your way up here. I know it's dark out, but still," Alpha Kent chuckles as we enter his office.

I glare daggers at the back of Dad's head as he walks towards where his best friend is seated.

"Sorry, Kent. Alexis wasn't too keen on coming," Dad replies.

"I understand."

I snort at his comment. He thinks he understands. I don't think anyone could understand what I'm going through.

"Now, now, Alexis. I know that you're upset, but let's not forget who the Alpha is here."

I open my mouth to make a snide remark but Dad's warning growl cuts me off.

Alpha Kent motions towards one of the two seats in front of his desk. "Please, sit down. We have much to discuss."

"I'm fine standing," I retort.

"Alexis," Dad growls.

I throw him a glare before moving to sit in the unoccupied seat. Alpha Kent smiles sadly at me across the desk.

"I was hoping Coby would have joined us, but I'm afraid he was forced to take some wolves and head out. Alpha Gareth seems to be having some problems with a group of rogues and has called for backup from our pack. He should be back soon though."

It was typical of our neighboring pack to cry for help once a rogue is sighted on their land. Their wolves aren't capable of taking down a group of rogues as they aren't as skilled as ours. Our pack has had to come to their rescue one time too many. It's about time they grew a pair.

"Anyway," Alpha Kent continued. "I'm sure you have many questions, Alexis and I know for certain that Coby's absence won't hold us back."

He smiles at me as he waits for my first question.

I bite back a growl. I don't understand how he can be so calm about this. How the hell could he let a male wolf mate with another wolf who wasn't his mate, especially when her mate was there all along?

"Who was my mother's real mate?"

Alpha Kent doesn't look the least bit surprised at me question. In fact, it's almost as if he knew I was going to ask that first. However, he doesn't respond straight away. Just as I'm about to ask him again, does he finally answer.

"Me."

"I'm sorry, what?"

"Your mother, Elizabeth Walker, was my true mate," he replies, sadness evident in his voice.

I watch him carefully as he expertly controls his emotions. This day just keeps getting weirder and weirder.

"What? That's not possible."

My mind is reeling from this new information. My mom, was the Alpha's true mate?

"I know it's a lot to take in, Alexis, bu-"

"A lot to take in? Finding out, that the woman that my Alpha is mated to is not his mate, would be a lot to take in," I say. "But, finding out that my parents weren't mates, that my mother's true mate is my Alpha and that both my parents and my Alpha lied to me my entire life, is an awful lot more than a lot to take in. It's enough to kill someone!"

I push my chair back as I stand up and begin pacing the room. I run a hand through my hair.

Dad sits silently and watches me, I feel his gaze on me but I completely ignore him. I can't deal with him right now. I can't deal with anyone right now.
