(Alexis' POV)

I groan in frustration and rub small circles on my temples in an attempt to ease my thumping headache. Ever since I woke up this morning I felt like a million red hot needles were being stabbed into the side of my head. A human would think it was all thanks to the wonderful, clear, violent tasting liquid we call vodka, but I, being a werewolf, know better.

I know that the pain I'm feeling is from my father, and, most likely, my disgrace of an Alpha attempting to contact me. I have no intention what so ever of answering their attempts to sabotage my mind. I need to have a clear head whenever I decide to deal with them.

Although my head is killing me, I can't seem to keep the smile off my face today. Who could blame me though? I spent the entire night in the arms of my jaw-droppingly gorgeous mate, even if I wasn't aware of it thanks to the previously mentioned drink.

When I found myself in his bed this morning, I all but squealed in delight. Who would have thought that I would have ended up there so soon? Not me, I didn't even dare to dream about it.

I didn't want to go back home this morning after everything that happened yesterday. I needed some time away from all the drama. I was delighted with Leo's reaction when I asked if I could stay around for a while and help out. I don't think I've ever seen anyone smile so brightly.

I hear a car door slamming as I continue making my way around towards the front of the practice, gently coaxing the St Bernard puppy I'm attempting to walk.

"Come on, puppy," I coo gently as I bend over in front of him. "You can do it."

I pat my knees in encouragement and slowly, and I mean really slowly, the pup takes one shaky step after another. I don't blame him though, a hip operation sounds pretty painful.

"Now that's a fine piece of ass," I hear being muttered from behind me.

I don't turn around, not wanting whoever it is to know I can hear him.

"Why haven't you introduced me to her yet?"

The next words spoken make my heart skip a beat, or ten.

"She's taken," Leo almost growls out.

I think I've just died of happiness. I could get used to this new protective side of Leo.

Something cold and wet rubs against my hand, dragging me out of my wandering thoughts of Leo. I glance down at the adorable St Bernard puppy who is looking up at me with his big brown eyes.

"You're too cute," I tell him with a smile. He wags his tail and continues to smile up at me.

Whoever said dogs can't smile is seriously mistaken. I love how no matter what a dog has been through when they sees someone, they always have a big smile and their tail is always happily wagging. It makes them that much more loveable.

I stand up and slowly continue to walk; the brown and white ball of fluff does his best to keep up. Bless him and his stubby little legs.

I hear footsteps approaching me and I look up, knowing only too well who it is when his mouthwatering scent enters my nose.

"Leo," I smile. "Isn't he doing great?"

"Yeah, he's doing amazing. You're doing a great job with him."

I giggle softly as the pup practically plops himself down on my foot, clearly worn out from the morning activities.

"I think he's telling you he's had enough," Leo chuckles.

"I think so too." I pick up him up and I'm instantly the lucky receiver of a big slobbery lick right up the side of my face. "Thanks, buddy," I sigh, wiping my cheek with the sleeve of my sweater.
