elle -a few months later-
"babe." i say to Jack, he looks up from his lay top and at me. he laughs. marli is eating, laying on top of my stomach.
"hi." she says to me.
"hi." i say back.
"you enjoying that marli?" Jack asks
"no." she says back. we laugh. she's learned a lot more words, but doesn't know the meaning of them.
"tomorrows you birthday my love." i say, pushing her hair out of her face. she smacks my boob.
"marli." i say with a laugh
"top." she says as the baby kicks.
"he's saying hi." i say. she pulls away and sits up. i pull my bra up.
"all done?" i ask. she shakes her head but climbs off the couch. i fix my top
"alright." i say.
"mama." she says, leaning her head on my belly.
"no baby." i say.
"dada." she says.
"baby." Jack says.
"shit." she says. i look at Jack and he laughs
"no marli." he says laughing.
"grapes." she says, pulling away and looking at me.
"you want grapes?" i ask.
"no." she says, waddling away to her blocks.
"do you wanna go get the puppy?" i ask. we decided on getting a dog. well marli and i convinced Jack. it's a german shepherd puppy from my aunt. her german shepherd had puppies and she offered to give me one. it's almost two years old now. and well trained. he's super gentle with my cousins baby. so i think he'd do good with the kids.
"puppy." marli says clapping.
"yay. puppy." i say. she screams and giggles.
"are you ready?" i ask Jack. he nods, closing his lap top. he stands up and walks to marli, picking her up. she looks at him.
"hi." she says.
"hi princess." he says. she makes a face and i laugh. i stand up and pull my jeans up a little. well the stretchy part.
"i forgot how comfortable these were." i tell Jack. he laughs.
"down." marli says, kicking her legs. Jack sets her down and holds her hand. he grabs his keys and i grab my phone along with marli's diaper bag. we then walk outside and Jack puts her in her car seat. i get in the front and Jack gets in the drivers seat.
"here we go." i say.
"go." marli repeats. i laugh as jack backs out.
"we're here." i say. i hear marli clap. Jack parks in the drive way and we get out. he get marli out and she waves to me as i come around the car.
"hi." i say. she giggles and lays her head down on jack's shoulder. he laughs. we walk to the front door and i ring the doorbell. i hear the dogs bark. marli gasps.
"huh! what's that?" i ask her.
"shit!" she exclaims.
"marliii!" i say. Jack laughs again. the door opens and i see bri standing there. she closes the door. i laugh. she opens it again with a smile.
"hi sissy!" she exclaims, hugging me he best she can.
"and nephew." she says, rubbing my belly.
"and niece." she says, taking marli from Jack.
"and brother in law." she says, motioning to Jack. he laughs.
"come on in family." she says. i laugh and walk inside. Jack follows me.
"hey." hayes says, standing up from the couch. he side hugs me and then bro hugs Jack.
"why are you guys here?" i ask bri as she closes the door.
"we're getting a puppy." bri says with a smile. i laugh.
"three dogs?" i ask hayes. he nods.
"yep." he says. i shake my head.
"you guys have a real skill in convincing people to do things." Jack says, motioning to bri and i.
"i know." we say at the same time. we laugh.
"elle!" my aunt exclaims.
"hiii." i say. she walks to me and hugs me. she then hugs Jack.
"so bri and hayes already picked there little guy. so i was thinking you could just set marli in the back and see which one she goes to." she tells me.
"ok." i say nodding. bri hands me marli and we walk out to the back.
"puppies!" marli exclaims. i nod with a smile. i then set her on the grass by a few of the puppies. she stands up and waddles to one of them, and lays down on him. he just lays there.
"that one." i say. bri laughs. i walk over to them and sit down, petting the puppy.
"his name is mickey." my aunt says. i pick marli up and set her next to me.
"mickey up." my aunt says. mickey stands up.
"sit." she says. he sits.
"put your hand out marli." my aunt tells her. i put her arm out.
"paw." my aunt says. mickey puts his paw in marli's hand. she giggles.
"mickey!" she exclaims. he barks. she jumps and turns around to me and starts crying.
"it's ok." i say laughing, rubbing her back. she quickly calms down.
"no." she tells him.
"well she knows one command." my aunt says. i laugh.
"well i guess this is our puppy huh?" i ask marli. she nods.
"dada." she says, standing up and walking away from me.
"alright bye." i say to her.
"bye." she says walking inside. i laugh and bri smiles.
"you better hope that one like you more then Jack." she says pointing to my belly. i nod with a laugh.
"come here mickey." i say. he walks to me and lays his head on my belly. i stick my lip out and look at my aunt and bri.
"he's a keeper." she says. i nod and pet him.
