elle -a week later-
"marli. is your brother coming?" Jack asks her as she lays down with me. she shakes her head as she drinks her bottle. i'm in the hospital in labor. not the most ideal situation i wanna be in. he's two weeks early. the doctor says he'll be fine, just small.
"he is." he tells her. she rolls her eyes.
"why do you have so much sass today?" i ask with a laugh.
"no." she says, sitting up. she reaches for Jack and he gets up, picking her up and then sitting back down in the rocking chair.
"how are you feeling babe?" he asks as he rubs marli's back.
"ok. the contractions just hurt." i say. he nods.
"it'll be over soon." he says.
"and we'll get to see our little guy." he says. i smile and nod.
"soon."
-a hour later-
Jack wipes my eyes and i laugh. the cries of bryson ring through the room.
"he's here." Jack sighs.
"thank god." i say. he laughs.
"i love you." he says, leaning down and giving me a kiss.
"i love you too." i say.
"here he is." the nurse says, holding him up to us. i smile
"hi little guy." i say, a few tears coming down my face.
"we're gonna get him cleaned up in the nursery and a few things checked with him, and we'll bring him right back ok?" the nurse says. i nod and she sets him in the little crib and then wheels him out. i look at Jack.
"he's so small." i say.
"he's small but a good size for being early." my doctor says. i nod.
"i wanna squeeze his little face." i say. Jack laughs and shakes his head.
-20 minutes later-
"goodmorning." i say to bryson as he opens his eyes. he closes them again.
"never mind." i say. Jack laughs.
"how do you think marli's gonna react?" he asks.
"i have no clue." i say with a laugh. just then there's a knock.
"guess we'll find out." he says, getting up and walking to the door. he pulls it open and and marli runs in.
"mama." she says.
"hi baby." i say to her. bri laughs and walks in. they're the first two to be inside the room.
"do you wanna see bryson?" i ask
"bryson." she says, jumping. bri picks her up and sets her next to me.
"wow." marli says, looking at him.
"i know." i say back.
"out." she says, pulling on the blanket.
"you want him out?" i ask. she nods. i laugh and undo the blanket.
"he's small." bri says. i nod.
"mine." marli says, taking his pacifier and putting it in her mouth.
"no baby." i say with a laugh. i take it out of her mouth and hand it to Jack to wash off.
"do you wanna hold him?" i ask bri. she nods. i pick him up out of the blanket and she walks over to my side. i set bryson in her arms and she smiles.
"i love himmmm." she says. i laugh. Jack comes out of the bathroom and hands the pacifier to bri. she gives it to him.
"do you see him princess?" Jack asks, picking her up and standing next to bri. marli goes to touch his face
"gentle baby." i say. she slowly sets her hand on his forehead and rubs in a circle.
"good job marli." i say with a smile. bryson starts to cry and marli jumps.
"no." she says, kicking as to get away from him. Jack sets her down and she takes off running to the other side of the room. bri laughs and gives bryson back to me and picks marli up.
"ok. say bye bye to momma." bri tells marli.
"bye." she says, waving to me.
"bye babes. come give me kisses." i say. bri walks over to us but marli kicks like she doesn't wanna be around bryson.
"ok ok. love you." i say, blowing her a kiss. she blows one back.
"dada." she says, waving to Jack. he waves back.
"love you. tell um, kathrine and david and mom and dad to come in." i say. she nods and then walks out of the room. as the door closes, i hear marli cry.
"aw." i say looking at Jack.
"so she didn't like him." he says. i laugh.
"she likes him when he's not crying." i say. he nods
"so this should be fun."
