Chasing Snow – Chapter 10

Demetrius

I woke up to the alarm I had set and rolled out of the hotel bed. Unfortunately when I checked we checked in last night they were all booked except for this small one bed room. I had to share the bed with my new adopted son who is not only the same size as me, but also a cuddler. The majority of the night I laid awake as he clung to the back of my shirt and pressed himself against me. Needless to say it was very uncomfortable. When I finally fell asleep I had to wake up to the alarm less than thirty minutes later. I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth and changed my clothes. Moments later as I had stripped down to my boxer briefs he opened the door to the bathroom wearing nothing but his boxers.

“Good gods man.” I said as I kicked him out of the door and closed and locked it.

Not only had I never seen anyone more intrusive, but he had to see me when I was in the pair of underwear that showed everything. I ran my hand over my face and bent over the sink as I shook my head.

“Well on the bright side, you have a very nice body,” Lucas laughed.

I poked my head out the door and my eyes turned red and I let dark mist radiate off of me.

“We don’t speak of this. Ever. I will ground you for life if you so much as think about it.”

“Okay, okay,” Lucas said as he held his hands off and walked back to his bag.

“And for Pete’s sake, put some clothes on.” I closed the door and finished getting dressed and walked back out to see Lucas lying on the bed flipping through the television channels.

“By the way, Ivry is a very lucky gal. But maybe you shouldn’t wear such tight underwear.” Without hesitation I used my dark mist and shoved Lucas off the bed.

“Never speak of what you saw,” Demetrius said in a threatening tone.

I checked us out of the hotel and we drove down through the town looking for any sign of vampire activity. “Are you sure this is the city where the Indum are? I haven’t seen any sign of them.” I asked Lucas as I looked around.

“I’m sure. Pull over here.”

I pulled the car over to the side of the road and Lucas got out and walked up to this girl with four or five ear piercings, a lip piercing and green and blue hair. She wore a beanie and sunglasses and wore black tights and a black skull hoodie. I couldn’t hear exactly what was going on, but after a couple minutes of talking Lucas gestured for me to get out the car.

I took the keys out of the ignition and put my sunglasses on and walked up to Lucas and the girl. The girl pulled down her sunglasses and looked me up and down and said, “You have got to be kidding me? He looks like a scrawny little whipping boy.”

I raised my eyebrows at her and looked at Lucas. “Who is this chick?” I asked him with a slight attitude.

“I am second in command of the clan Indum. Are you who this kid says you are?”

“Who did he say I was?” I asked her.

“He said that you are the Lord of Shadows.”  She said as she crossed your arms. “Frankly I am having a hard time believing that.”

“This coming from some punk rock vampire chick. What do I need to do to prove myself?”

“Drive me to my clan’s headquarters and our leader Lord Indum will test you.”

“What if I say no,” I asked her pointlessly. This girl was already sitting in the passenger seat of the car. I stared at Lucas and shook my head as I walked to the car.

“What,” he yelled as he threw up his hands. After he hopped into the back seat I drove off following the instructions from this girl and soon wound up in the parking lot of an old warehouse.

“Can I at least get your name before I walk into this potential trap?” I asked the girl as I cut the car off.

“People call me Blade,” she said as she stepped out of my car.

She led us into the warehouse and she stood in the middle of the floor and yelled out, “Yo, stop hiding. You punk ass vamps we have company, show some hospitality.”

The lights cut on all at once and I had to cover my eyes not to be blinded. After my eyes were adjusted I looked around and saw hundreds of vampires standing around us and in the rafters. One vampire dropped down besides Blade, he had a buzz cut with lip and eyebrow piercings and arms covered in tattoos.

“Hey, Blade. Who are these scrubs?” I looked at this guy and immediately sized him up for a fight. He was taller than me, but scrawny. He wore a long black jacket that could be concealing weapons.

“Apparently the older one is the Lord of Shadows.”  A chorus of laughter echoed through the warehouse and I felt my anger rising.

“What the hell do I have to do to prove myself?” I yelled as I turned looking at the surrounding vampires.

“Nothing,” the guy said uninterested. “Get the hell out of my warehouse.”

He was dismissing me. I couldn’t believe it. I was pissed. I called upon my power and the clothes of the Lord of Shadows came upon me and I turned the mist into wings and yelled loud enough for everyone to hear.

“I am the Lord of Shadows. You will not dismiss me! I have come here for a purpose and you will listen!”

The warehouse was dead silent and the man said, “Okay what do you want? I will listen to you.”

“Thank god.” Lucas sighed from behind me.
