Chasing Snow – Chapter 2
Demetrius
I put Payton in her car seat in the back of my Maserati and I jumped into the front seat. I had on my fedora and sunglasses today because the sun was burning down on us. Ivry got into the passenger seat and smiled. “It’s a gorgeous day.”
“Indeed it is,” I said as I drove off through the woods.
I rolled the windows down and let the wind rush though the car. Payton looked out of the window with the biggest smile on her adorable face. I loved her so much. She had Ivry’s smile and her bright eyes and had height, black hair and paleness. I never thought I would never love another girl besides Ivry, I was wrong.
“Be careful, girly,” Ivry said as she turned around. “Don’t want you to fall out.”
“Don’t worry, mommy. I won’t fall out again.” but moments after she said those words she changed into her wolf and fell out of the car. Since she was so small she had no control of when it would happen.
“Good goddess, not again.” Ivry said as she tried to catch her.
“Grab the wheel I’ll get her.”
I summoned my power and jumped out of the car. Before I hit the ground I used my dark mist to create wings and fly after Payton. Payton’s wolf, Stella, was special and the first of her kind. A winged wolf. I caught up to her and she was flying steadily along.
‘Stella, what are you doing,' I asked her mentally.
‘I wanted to fly. The woods are so nice.’ She responded as she glided along.
‘Indeed it is, dear. But if you want to fly lets fly in the direction of the castle and stay near the car. We never know when you could change back.’ Stella nodded and turned around and flew above the car.
I flew next to the window and saw Ivry sitting in the driver’s seat with a smile on her face.
“Having fun?” I asked her and she jumped, swerving the car before taking control again.
“You jerk,” she said with a laugh. “Don’t surprise me when I am going ninety in the woods.”
“How about if you’re going ninety on the highway? Can I scare you then?” I laughed and she swerved the car towards me and I flew out of the way.
“Where is Payton,” she asked me.
“Well Stella has taken control and she wants to fly not drive,” I responded.
“That Stella is something else. She gets it from Violet I swear.” Ivry said.
I laughed with her for a moment and said, “Well she certainly isn’t as outgoing. She is much quieter than Violet ever was.” Ivry nodded then I felt a weight land on my back and I turned to see Payton with her wide smile while clinging to me.
“Daddy, you are so cool.” I smiled and flew over the car as the castle came into view of the castle. We arrived at the castle and were greeted by Ivry’s parents and Ann who stood at the entrance. Payton jumped off my back and ran up to Ann and shouted, “Anny!”
“Hi, my little wolf pup.” She said as she picked her up. “How have you been?”
“I am good. We had pancakes this morning. Daddy makes the best pancakes.” I smiled as she talked and looked over at Ivry who was talking with her mother.
Ivry turned to me and said, “Hey, my mum and I are going to spend some mother daughter time together.”
“Don’t worry,” Her dad said. “Demetrius and I will have a good time together.” He clasped his heavy hand on my shoulder and I felt intimidated. Even though I knew I could beat him in a fight, the man was Ivry’s father. The fear of your love’s father is unlike any other.
He brought me inside to his room in the castle which he rigged with flat screen television with a surround sound stereo. It was a man cave. He poured two glasses of whiskey and sat down in one of his reclining chairs and I sat down in the other.
“How have you been Demetrius?” He asked me as her took a sip of his whiskey.
I shifted in my seat and said, “I’ve been fine, Alpha.”
He laughed and said, “You don’t have to call me Alpha. Just call Aiden. How have you been sleeping? Have the nightmares still been bothering you?”
Ever since I got married to Ivry I told her parents everything about me. How I had been chosen by the King of the Underworld and what has happened to me since. They know of my powers and of my encounter with the giant serpent the night before Emily’s funeral. I told them of the nightmares I have had every night that involves me walking through the underworld kneeling before the King as he kills off Ivry and Payton and her parents. Every night I was subjected to that horror and there were times when I didn’t sleep for a week. It has been five days since I last slept, I spent the night I didn’t sleep training with my Lord of Shadow powers so I could protect my family.
“They have been. I haven’t slept for five days.” I said as I drank all of the whiskey and ran a hand over my face. “I don’t know what that is but I don’t want to find out.”
“Don’t worry, Demetrius. You are part of the pack now, you are one of us. We protect our own.”
“Thank you.” I said and put the glass down.
I saw a glint in my peripherals and caught a dagger that Aiden threw at me with supernatural reflexes. This was the test he gave me every time we were alone to see if I had enough skill to protect Ivry. I threw the knife into the ceiling and said, “Nice try, Aiden. Why don’t we take this outside for a proper spar this time though?”
He laughed and cracked his knuckles then said, “You’re on boy.”
