Chasing Snow – Chapter 17

Ivry

I laid there and held Payton, not wanting to let her go. I felt a pain in my heart and Violet was howling inside my head while I cried silently. Payton was asleep as she lay on me while I laid on the cold damp stone floors. We have only been here for hours, but it feels like we have been here for days. Lily went crazy when all of her guns were taken from her and Blade, who hates my guts, just throws knives at the wall.

"Mommy..." I heard Stella call out to us.

"Yes?" I ask weakly and I felt a pain strike my heart and Violet felt it too.

"What's wrong, Ivry," Lily asked.

"I don’t know," I said weakly. "I think something is wrong with Demetrius."

“You can sense when something is wrong with Demetrius,” Blade asked skeptically as she ran her finger down the flat side of the blade. “Well yes, I can.” I said as Stella shifted off of us and looked around. Blade rolled her eyes and got up. “Great, now the wolf is hallucinating, oh and not to mention they are all bi-polar.”

“I don’t know what your problem is with werewolves,” I said as I walked up to her. “But you need to quit bad mouthing my kind and my child.”

“Or what,” Blade said as she held her knife up to my throat. “What are you going to do, little pup?” I looked over at Stella or Payton, whoever was in control, and saw they were watching everything. I had to be careful. “Move the blade from my neck. Whatever your deal is with us save it till after we are out of this hellhole.” Blade snarled at me and pressed at my neck a little harder as she leaned in to my face and hissed, “You want to know what my problem with your whole bloody kind is? I had a husband. We lived happily together in the Indum clan. One of your mangy friends came in on a raid to our warehouse and he died protecting me. I was splattered with his blood as your friends tore out his throat.”

I couldn’t say anything to Blade, what could you say to something like that. I looked away and she said, “I’ve hated your kind since then. I figured that if the world could do something as cruel as that then it wouldn’t care about anything else. Love was a load of bull. The only thing that mattered was not getting screwed over and surviving day to day.”

“Girls. Stop,” Lily said as she pulled Blade off of me. “We need to find a way out of here.” I looked at Lily and although she looked like she just came out of an asylum she was right. “Anyone have a plan?” Blade asked as she stabbed her knife into the wall. “Mommy…” Payton tried to call out to me.

“One minute, baby,” I said quickly. “Lily, how well do you know the palace?”

“Well enough to find an exit if we can get out of this damned room.” Lily said as she ran her hand through her hair. “Okay… I think I may have a way.” I said as I felt my pocket for my phone. I pulled it out and it barely had enough power for me to look up the picture I took of Emily’s spell book. It was a spell to open locked doors, whether it worked in the Underworld I have no clue.

“Mommy…” Payton said urgently. I turned to her and saw Zoey holding her gently stroking her hair. “Let go of my, child,” I thundered as I leapt at her. I ran into the wall and saw Zoey standing by the door. “Tsk, tsk, tsk. Oh, my dearest Ivry. What foolish actions.”

“The only thing foolish is for you to show your face here,” Lily said as she stood in front of me.

“Oh so the rumors are true. My dear baby sister has come to see me,” Zoey cooed as she bounced Payton. “Too bad you can’t do anything without your guns.” Lily’s face showed her anger and a dark mist began to wrap itself around her arm. “Oh, you are strong enough to use that,” Zoey said surprised. Before she could do anything else Lily raised her hand and fired a gun that she had crafted from the mist. Zoey’s head snapped back quickly, but she remained standing. She looked back at her sister and had a hole in the middle of her head that slowly began to heal.

“You do have some tricks up your sleeve, don’t you sis?” Zoey said. “Perhaps the king was right when he said we could have further use for you.”

“Yeah right you red-haired bimbo,” Blade said as she ran a knife across Zoey’s neck. The knife snapped in half and Zoey threw Blade across the room. “All these attempted assassinations are really annoying. I think I shall take my leave,” Zoey said as the door opened. She walked out the door and said, “Come on, Payton. Say goodbye to you old mommy.” I screamed and ran at the door, but it slammed shut before I could get through. I punched, tore at, scratched, and did everything in my power to get that door open, but nothing happened. I leaned my back against the wall and slid down it. Tears fell again and I felt hopeless. I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up to see Blade. She took her sunglasses off and looked at me with the brightest green eyes. “I’m sorry,” she said as she rubbed my back. “Um… I think we got off on the wrong foot. My name is Harmony. We will get through this together.”
