Chasing Snow - Chapter 12

Demetrius

I stood in the middle of the vampires and I felt hundreds of eyes on me. I had the entire room's attention, but now I regretted it. Before I could say anything pain shot up my side more intense than before. I collapsed on the ground and grunted in pain. Lucas knelt beside me and put his hand on my shoulder.

"Are you okay?" He asked me, his voice full of worry.

I couldn't respond, I felt the darkness spreading through my body and I knew I had to focus to stop it. I ignored the stares the pierced me and had to fight against the will of the King of the Underworld. It took much longer than normal to subdue the spreading pain.

When I did I stood again and the man laughed, "This is the almighty Lord of Shadows? This has to be a joke."

"Who are you to say such things," I scowled at him.

He now wore such a serious expression that it would make some men scared, but I held my ground. "I," He said slowly. "I am Josiah Indum. Leader and founder of the Indum clan. Now as I look at you, I doubt you have the true power and skill to be called the Lord of Shadows."

"You are doubting my claim to the name?" I snarled at him.

"Obviously you can't even turn into this," he said gesturing to my entire body, "without being put through pain. Furthermore, this isn't the final form of the Lord of Shadows. So why should I believe you?"

I brought forth my specialty sword from the mist and said, "Why don't you fight me and I will show you my power?"

A smile spread across his face and he took his coat off and dropped it on the floor revealing hundreds of throwing knifes attached to belts that looped around his body.

His eyes turned red and he said, "I've been dying for a fight. You're on, pretty boy."

I just realized that I haven't had a chance to effectively use my powers in a fight against another vampire. The last time I used it was against Zoey and that wasn't exactly a fun experience. I braced myself and held my sword in a ready stance and I heard everyone else shuffle away. I summoned a more of my power and it brought up a mask the covered everything but my eyes and it gave me wings of mist that felt as if they were part of my body as well as a spade ended tail. I was nearly turning into a demon. I restrained myself from summoning anymore of the power and I leapt at Josiah with supernatural speed.

He blocked my initial attack with two knives and then I saw mist move off of him like tentacles. I jumped back, dodging a volley of knives that the mist had thrown. After I had leapt away he retracted the mist. 'I can't get close to him because he will use his mist to attack me.' I thought as I dodged another set of knives. 'He doesn't use the mist unless he is in dire need. He must not have enough strength to control it. That's his weakness.' I snapped my sword into a whip and deflected two more knives. I ran around him and snapped my whip for his face. He dodged it in time, but I was able to cut some of his hair off. I snapped the whip again and this time he grabbed it with his mist as I predicted he would. I ran at him again and snapped the whip. He continued to block with his mist as he threw knives at me.

I could see that he was getting tired and that it wouldn't be long until I won. I continued this method of attacking until he started to get sloppy and weak. I snapped my whip and he threw up his mist to block, but instead my whip tore through the mist and hit him in the chest. He was shocked by the cut and I took that opportunity and ran up to him. Before he even realized what had happened I landed an uppercut on him, sending him into the air. He landed with a thud and I stood over him triumphant.
