*Luke's POV*

I open the door and gasp inaudibly. I didn't know who I expected to be at the door, but it wasn't Phoenix. And now that she was here, I didn't know what I was supposed to do.

We stares at each other, both of us speechless, until she whispers so quietly I can barely here her, "Hi."

"Hey," I say back, but I'm not sure she heard me; I could barely hear myself. I stepped back and let her come into the house. My head was spinning as I shut the door, and when I tuned around, Phoenix was sitting on the couch, fiddling with the hem of her shirt. I walked towards her and sat on the chair opposite of her.

"Luke," she started. I looked at her profile, took in every feature, every shade of color, everything. I thought about how beautiful she was right now, how beautiful she's always been. So beautiful I didn't even notice it.

*Phoenix's POV*

"Luke-" I tired again, but he interrupted me.

"I'm sorry, Phoenix." I looked up, surprised, but he was staring at the floor. "I'm sorry for what I said. It wasn't the truth. I didn't want to ever hurt you. I never wanted to break your heart, but by lying to you like that, I think I did something much worse." He sighed and looked up at me. "I broke my own heart, too."

I opened my mouth to say something, but I was speechless. My mind was a mess of confusion, relief, happiness, and outright tiredness. I shook my head in amazement, and Luke took my hands and held them to his heart. "I'm so sorry for not telling you this before. I love you. I always have, I always will." And he pressed his lips against mine.
