Sohyun woke up an hour early, the light from the window illuminating her body that her white fluffy blanket outlined. She sat up, eyeing her alarm clock to make out the blurry numbers. The alarm started ringing and she quickly turned it off. The reason for her waking up an hour early was so that she could take Taehyung to the coffee shop across the street to buy him a donut and treat the others with coffee before work.Sohyun put on a pair of grey jeans and a dark green shirt along with a jean jacket over it. She quickly glanced at herself in the mirror, noticing her roots growing out to her natural brown hair color. With scheduling a hair appointment to get a touch-up and a re-dye in the back of her mind, she put her hair up in a messy bun that laid on top of her head. Deciding to be a little fancy today, she put in two small fake diamond earrings and a black choker. She grabbed her floral wallet and keys, closing her bedroom door behind her and slipped into her white converse.
She stepped outside, her front door slamming shut behind her. Sohyun closed her eyes as she took in the fresh oxygen that was mixed with toxic pollution. The soothing cold morning wind hitting her skin and blowing the few strains that strayed from her bun. Opening her eyes again and deeply inhaling, Sohyun walked down the steps and started her walk down the street. A smile appeared on her face, the current month’s events flashing through her mind. For once after years of disappointments and hardships, genuine happiness reentered her life. A meaning was finally added to her life when she thought all hope was lost. Of course not everything was fixed, but it was something, and she wanted to keep it.
For a moment, a moment that felt like a lifetime, everything and everyone from her past life slipped through the memory of her brain. Sohyun wished she could permanently erase those ugly thoughts and unwanted memories. To dig through her mind and rip out every single remembrance of five years ago and not to dwell on her past, but instead her present and future. She wanted to live, be free, not held back still living in her past.
Sohyun knew that wouldn’t happen to her dismay. It would always come back and it will always stick with her. Even in her happiest they sometimes would still find her and eat her alive. The memories were still fresh, like a freshly cut wound. If you ignored it, it would just keep bleeding. But for her, just slapping a bandaid on the wound wasn’t going to make it all better.
Sohyun pushed her thoughts away as she opened the restaurant door. Just as she entered, Taehyung walked out of Namjoon’s office. His head was facing downward as he looked down at the phone in his hands with an intense facial expression, his brows furrowed. His usual straight poster was broken as he concentrated on whatever he was looking at on his phone. Taehyung’s eyes moved over to Sohyun. He froze, looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
Sohyun smiled. “Just the person I wanted to see. Let’s go get you that donut.”
A grin spread across Taehyung’s surprised face. He turned his phone off and shoved it in the back pocket of his black ripped jeans.
The two walked outside together, walking further down the street to the coffee shop.
“So . . .” Sohyun glanced at Taehyung as he walked beside her, curiosity gleaming in her eyes.
Taehyung looked down at her, knowing what the look on her face meant. “What?”
Sohyun looked down at the sidewalk, hands in her jean jacket pockets. “What were you looking at on your phone? It seemed like something serious.”
Taehyung looked ahead. “Just some research.”
“What kind of research?”
Taehyung lowered his voice as he leaned towards her. “I’m helping Namjoon with the kidnapping case. I had to do some in-depth research on our suspects. Get a better background of them and their associates to get closer to finding out who this J.Y.O is since Namjoon’s having some trouble getting a location. The guys smart. He has a lot of security on his phone, which makes Namjoon’s job harder.”
