“Wait, what?” Sohyun furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. “Say that again.”

Jungkook let out a sigh, causing a whiff of minty fresh toothpaste to fan Sohyun’s nostrils. “It’s not that serious, Sohyun. I just want to make sure that you understand everything before we open the restaurant.”

“By roleplaying?”

“I’m just going to pretend to be a customer and you’ll take my order,” Jungkook replied. “I don’t see what the problem is.”

“There isn’t a problem. It just seems silly.”

“But it’ll help prepare you for later on today.” Jungkook saw Yoongi walk by and called for him. “Yoongi, come over here.”

Yoongi groaned just by his name being called, not wanting to do anything Jungkook wanted. He looked in their direction and plastered a smile on his face. “Yes?”

“Pretend to be a customer. Sohyun’s going to take your order,” Jungkook said.

Yoongi’s eyes shifted towards Sohyun and then back to Jungkook. “Why can’t you do it?”

“Sohyun needs to handle someone she doesn’t know well. And you just happen to be walking by,” Jungkook said.

“Curse my timing,” Yoongi muttered. “Let’s do this quickly,” Yoongi said as he sat down at a table.

Sohyun grabbed a menu and placed it in front of Yoongi. She looked at him and smiled, showing her teeth slightly. “Welcome to Jin’s Preeminent. I’m Sohyun. I’ll be your waitress for today.”

Jungkook smiled proudly at her like a father watching his daughter learning how to ride a bike for the first time.

“Can I offer you in an appetizer?” Sohyun asked.

“No, I’d like to order,” Yoongi replied.

“Ok.” Sohyun took out a notepad and a pencil from the front pocket of the black apron around her waist.

Yoongi pretended to look through the menu and then looked into Sohyun’s eyes. His stare made her spine cold. Yoongi’s dark eyes looked like it could see through her, rip her apart at any moment. Sohyun’s eyes wandered down to the yellow blue lined paper, not able to handle his intense stare.

“This is so stupid,” Yoongi mumbled quietly. “I would like turtle soup.”

Sohyun was about to write the order down but stopped. She looked up from the paper and at Yoongi. “We don’t sell turtle soup here.”

Yoongi’s lips curved into a small smile. “I guess you did read the menu ten times.”

Sohyun’s eyes darted to Jungkook in betrayal. “You told him that?”

“I think she’ll be fine waitressing,” Yoongi said as he stood up. “We need to get ready to open the restaurant.”

“Yoongi, are you being nice?” Jungkook asked with a smile, surprised.

Yoongi narrowed his eyes at him. “Do you want me not to be nice?”

“No. You can go back into the kitchen. Me and Sohyun will put the sign up.”

“Last time I checked it didn’t take two people to put an open sign up,” Yoongi muttered as he walked toward the kitchen.

Jungkook grinned at Sohyun. “Are you ready for your first day of waitressing? Today you will put all your learning to the test.”

“Stop being so damn extra and put up the open sign,” Taehyung said as he walked out of the kitchen, carrying wrapped up silverware to finish setting the few tables.

Sohyun chuckled. “Yeah, I think I’m ready.”

“Would you do the honors of putting the sign up?” Jungkook asked.

“I would love to.”

Jungkook stepped aside as she walked up to the window. Sohyun let her fingers wrap around the sign. She watched as a couple of cars and people passed by before changing the sign to open.

This was going to be her first actual day of work, taking orders and serving customers. Sohyun felt excited with a mixture of nervousness. This was something new to her and she was determined to do well. Jin’s Preeminent was now opened and it didn’t take long for people to come in.

Daylight suddenly vanished as the dark of night started to take over. Sohyun stood at a table, taking a couples order. After writing their order down on the notepad, she turned around to go give it to chefs. Her eyes glanced over at Jungkook who standing behind the counter staring at her. His eyes quickly shifted away from her, his cheeks turning a faint pink color.

A smile slowly took place on Sohyun’s lips. Jungkook had his eyes closely on Sohyun and was in close proximity of her for most of the day. Sohyun found it cute that he was keeping track of what she was doing and that her first official day of work was going smoothly.

She went into the kitchen and gave her order to Jin. Sohyun waited around in the kitchen, out of the way, until the order was done. She wanted to get away from the chaotic atmosphere for a bit, though the kitchen wasn’t always as calm as it was now.

Once the order was finished, Sohyun took the food to the couples before going to attend to the other customers that came in and cleaning the area of the ones that left. More people came in and then left. As people came in and left the restaurant, cold fresh air blew in, causing Sohyun to relax and ease from the busy loud restaurant. The loudness and the thoughts trying to process in her head were so tightly compacted in her headspace, it felt like someone was squishing her head. The air and the slight smell of the oxygenating pants

outside made the feeling go away and she continued working.

One thing Sohyun didn’t realize was how much walking she would have to do. Her legs were starting to get tried as she hasn’t sat down once all day. Sohyun started to wonder if this type of job was right for her. But it was too late now to think about that.

Time seemed to go by quickly in the bustling restaurant. Closing time soon came by and Sohyun was glad, ready to go home and sleep. Everyone was cleaning up the restaurant while Jungkook counted the money.

Sohyun was finishing cleaning up a table when Jungkook walked up to her.

“I guess you don’t need any more training,” Jungkook said. “You did a good job today, Sohyun.”

“Thanks, Jungkook,” Sohyun replied as she stepped away from the table.

“No, thank you. You were a pleasure to train. Unlike Jimin. Who was the opposite of pleasure when I had to train him.”

Jimin, who was by the door putting the closed sign up, turned around. “I can hear you.”

Jungkook rolled his eyes. “Then don’t listen.”

Sohyun chuckled at the two, causing Jimin to smirk. “You find something funny, Sohyun?” Jimin asked as he walked towards her.

Jungkook held his arm out, stopping Jimin from getting any closer to Sohyun. “Jimin, stop trying to flirt and go do something productive,” Jungkook said.

Jimin put his hands up in defense. “I wasn’t flirting, but ok,” Jimin said before spinning around and walking away.

“Sohyun, you can go ahead and head home,” Jungkook said.

“You sure? I can help out with cleaning.”

Jungkook smiled. “I appreciate the offer, but we’re almost done anyway.”

“Alright then. I’ll you see tomorrow. Bye.”

Sohyun waved at him before going to clock out and then grabbing her pink hoodie.

She heard the door close shut behind her as she stood on the sidewalk. Sohyun glanced one last time into the restaurant, a small smile on her lips as the neon lights shone down upon her and her eyes glisten with the lights reflecting in her big dark pupils. Looking away, her smile faded. She started her walk back home, pulling her hood over her head and then wrapping her arms around her body as the cold wind left her with goosebumps and shivers.
