New Beginnings

New Family

"Dr Grey, I work here. Don't be frightened. I'm Maggie."

"My mother never had another kid. I'm an only child. I would know if I had another sibling besides..." I say as I trail off I to a wave of tears, but then that sadness turns I to pain, as the little squirt tried to get out of me.

"Where the hell is Addison!!!" I scream as it feels like my insides are being turned inside out. .

"Chill Mer. I'm here. " Says the bossy red head. "These little suckers out before you know it. "

"Good. I just want it out if me. " I say in response to Addi.

*A good 30 minutes of pain later*

"It's a girl... And a boy!". Dr Addison Montgomery announces. "What're their names?"

"Get Derek, he'll do it. Can I hold her though?" I ask politely.

She hesitates, the nods and places the little bundle into my hands.

"Aww, they're absolutely perfect!" I say about the beautiful infant in my arms. I look up at Addi then back to her girlish curls, blood-plastered to her head, and her reddish skin, and her squinty little eyes. The boy looked almost the same, but he had my flat hair, plastered and these amazingly blue eyes. "Hey Addi, will his eyes stay this blue?". I ask.

"Probably not, but you never know. " She responds.

Derek walks into the garishly decorated room. "How are my favorite people?"

"Oh my gosh, they're absolutely perfect. Come look!" I lean her towards Derek, and Addison shows Derek the boy.

"Aww, look at her! She is perfect, dear. How about we name her Katherine? And Katie for short? And the boy, how does Lex sound?"

I nod in agreement without taking my eyes off of our baby girl. "Katherine is a perfect name for her. And Lex is perfect for him. He is a Lex.

Addi smiles, and says "Well, I'm going to get the bassinets, so we can all rest. I'm going to leave her here, and page me if you guys need anything. " She collects her things, and goes out into the hallway.

KATHERINE'S PERSPECTIVE

I shake. It's cold. Where am I? Ahh, warmth. It feels weird. 'She's perfect'

I'd like to think that myself too. That must be my mother.

'Get Derek'

'Yes Mer. '

A bit later, I hear 'She is perfect. How about we name her Katherine? And Katie for short?' says a masculine voice. That must be my father. Derek. But what's my mothers name? Did I hear it as Mer? Is that short for something? And why did people call her Dr Grey? Is my mother a doctor? What does Derek do?

My head is all full of questions. I don't know really where to start, because I can't talk yet. Or rather, I can, just nobody will understand me. So I start crying.

ZOLA'S PERSPECTIVE

"Aunt Cristina?"

"Yes Zozo?"

"Where's Mommy and Daddy? They've been in that room for a really long time. Why?". I question.

She hesitated before speaking again.

"Well Zola, the reason why Mommy and Daddy are in the room is because you have a new sister! Isn't that exciting Zozo?"

"Yeah, I guess. But what about Bailey and Emilia?"

"What about them, Zola?"

"Well, if I'm here, and my new sister, and Bailey and Emilia, Mommy and Daddy are going to be busy keeping us controlled. Right? And what about Lex?". I ask.

"Um, I guess that's one way of looking at it. But that's why you, Bailey and Emilia are going to stay with me and Uncle Alex for a little bit. How does that sound?"

Little Zola's face lit up and she quickly started nodding her head in agreement. "You and Uncle Alex would really do that?! Yay! I can't wait! Can we go tell Bailey?"

"Of course! Let's go pick up Bailey and Emilia from the daycare and get Alex and go back to your house, grab some stuff and then head back to mine and Alex's house. Does that sound good?"

I nod in agreement, Aunt Cristina takes my hand and we walk to the elevator that will take us to the daycare floor.

"Hi, I'm here to take Bailey and Emilia Grey-Shepard back to my house upon the request of Dr Meredith Grey and Dr Derek Shepard. Thank you. "

"Just sign here please, to show that they were picked up. Thank you, and have a wonderful evening. " says the helpful daycare lady.

"I'm just going to text Mommy that I have Bailey and Mia. Unless you want to Skype her to tell her. "

"I wanna Skype momma! And show her we have Bailey and Emilia! " I say with a little too much excitement.

Cristina pulls out her phone, unlocks it and raps on the Skype app icon. She hands me the phone and I tap on Momma's name, which is in there as Meredith. I wait for the call to connect.

*Up in room with Meredith, Derek, Lex and Katherine *

MEREDITH'S PERSPECTIVE

"Derek, would you mind answering that please? " I say sweetly.

"You sure? It says Cristina... And it's a Skype call too. Still want me to grab it?" Derek says skeptically.

"Hun, that's not Cristina, that would be Zola, which means that they already picked up Bailey and Mia. Can you hand me the phone please?"

"Sure Mer. ".

"Hey Zola! How are you guys?" I say as I look at the screen and I hear little Zozo say "Hi Momma! Aunty Cristina and I have Emilia and Bailey and are going to get Uncle Alex and then going home! ". All I could see was the inside of Zola's ear.

"Okay Zola, can I talk to Aunt Cristina please?"

"Okay!"

"Thanks Zozo!"

I see her smile as she passes me to Cristina.

"Hey Mer, get some rest, you looked drained. So what's its name?"

"Thanks Cristina. You look like crap too. Her name is Katherine, and a boy Lex, but he's not doing too well. Addie had to take him into surgery. Kate's so beautiful. Want to see? She's right here" I tilt the camera so she could see the little bundle in my arms. "Isn't she adorable?" I ask Cristina.

"Aww, Mer, you and Derek make the most beautiful and adorable babies ever. It's so MTB (meant to be). " Cristina says. "So once Alex comes we're gonna head back to our place, and chill there for a bit. What does Zola, Mia or Bailey need from your place?" She asks.

"Don't bother going to your house, Little Mia sometimes carsick if she's in the car for too long. Just stay at our house. Less stuff to carry, and lug around. The couch is a pull out and we have an extra bedroom still. ". I tell her.

"Cool, thanks Mer. I'll tell Alex. Oh look, speaking of the devil, hey hun. How's it going? Mer said we can stay at their place while we have their kids. Isn't that sweet?"

"Yeah it is. Thanks Mer! You rock! ".

Addie comes back, with a stressed look on her face.
"Addie, what is it?". I ask her frantically.
"I'm so sorry. I did everything I could. But Lex, his heart couldn't handle it any longer. I'm really sorry Mer. I know you loved him, but he was only alive for a few hours. Don't worry. I did everything I could. Something's just don't work out the way we want them to. But you have Kate, Zola, Bailey and little Emilia. You have four fabulous kids. Be great full. I have to go. Paperwork. See you guys later. I'm really sorry for your loss. I wish I could do more. " Addie apologized.
"So Mer. Are you okay?". Derek asks once Addie leaves.
"Derek. I just lost a baby. He was fine when I had him, but he went downhill fast. I don't know why. I wish I did. But I don't. Magic won't work, and sometimes medicine can't fix everything. I'll be okay as long as I have Katie, Zozo, Bailey and Mia. And of course, you. " I say to Derek, my MTB.
