A/N: sorry about the last chapter of it was a little graphic... That's not my usual style, but I figured it was kind of necessary there... Enjoy! And thanks for reading!
MEREDITH'S PERSPECTIVE
I walk into the nursing facility, with a straight face.
"Hello, I'm here to see ELLIS Grey. I'm Meredith Grey, her daughter." I say to the receptionist.
"Just sign in dear, she's right over there." Says the grey haired woman who looks like a granny.
I walk over to the woman sitting in a chair at a small circular table. I sit in the other chair at the other side of the table, next to a woman with chestnut colored hair, curly, and pulled back into a loose bun.
"Hi Mom. It's me, Meredith. Your daughter. " I say.
"Meredith. My daughter." She says as she turns and faces me. "Am I a doctor?"
"Yeah Mom. You're a doctor. You're a surgeon. A great one at that. " I tell her, thinking that her condition has gotten a lot worse.
"Am I at the hospital? Seattle Grace?". Ellis asks me.
"No, Mom. You're at a nursing home. You have Alziemers. I'm Meredith. I'm a doctor too. Also at Seattle Grace. But the name changed to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Mom, you used to work there with Richard Webber. Remember him?" I ask my mom.
"Richard. Richard Webber. Of course. We were the first two at the hospital to come in close contact with Aids, and I remember when you were around four, Thatcher brought you in. He didn't know what to do. You were fussing, so he gave you the Anatomy Jane doll. I told him that was supposed to be for your birthday. Richard was standing right at the nurses station with us then. I got pages into a surgery right after that. " Mom says.
I stare at her. "Mom, how do you remember that?". I ask.
"Meredith, how old are you now?" She asks me.
"Mom, I'm thirty nine. I have four great kids. You have four great grandkids. Zola, Bailey, Emilia, and Kate. I don't believe that you've met any of them. I'm married to Derek Shepard, remember him? I told you when you came into the hospital once, you said that I was throwing away my life. Well, we have four kids, and if you would like to visit, I'm sure I could get you a doctors note that says that you have to come home for a bit, Mom." I say.
"Yes, I would like that Meredith. I would love to meet your kids. My grandkids. Wow, how old are they?" Ellis asks.
"Well, Zola is nine, Derek and I adopted her during my friend Alex Karev's African Child run during his run for chief resident, Bailey is turning four soon, Emilia is two, and Kate was born less than a year ago. They would all love to see their Grandma, I'm sure." I say.
"When can we go? When can I see them? Can we go now?" Mom asks axiously, obviously wanting to get out of the nursing home. I can't blame her for that. The food looks worse then hospital food.
"Well, how about if I come back on Friday, with a doctor's note, and we can go see them, does that sound okay Mom?" I reason.
She thinks, trying to form a sentance that would make sence. "That sounds great. Friday, what time?"
"Friday, at four o'clock. I'll tell the nurse not to plan anything else for you from then on, okay Mom?"
"Perfect. Thank you Meredith." Mom says.
I look at my watch, I register the time. "Mom, I should get going. But I'll see you on friday at four oclock pm. Don't forget." I say, getting up, giving her a hug, and walking to the desk.
"Meredith," Mom calls after me. "Can we go get ice cream too?"
I laugh and say of course, and walk out the door back to my car.
I get into my car, and drive away from the nursing home. My phone buzzes in the cup holder beside me, and I pull onto a side road to look at the text.
GREY: ER ASAP INCOMING TRAUMA
I roll my eyes as I click my phone shut and pull back out onto the road. I take a second to remember that I'm not headed for the hospital, and not home. I put on the car phone. "Call Derek Shepard" I say to my car.
"Calling Derek Shepard, Mobile" says my car.
Ring, ring ring ring ring goes the phone.
"Hello, Meredith?" Derek says.
"Yeah, hi. I'm using my car phone. My phone is plugged in, so it's linked. I just got paged to th ER. Said a trauma was coming in. You get that?" I ask, absentlmindedly while driving.
"No... " I hear a loud piercing scream in the background, and a very loud clatter. Then I hear overly loud crying, and Derek rushing around. "Wait, hold on. I need to call you back. Mia just pushed a book or something next to Kate, and it hit her head, and then Bailey, being a boy, only made it worse, when he ehard Kate scream, he dropped the cup he was holding onto his foot. And it was glass. I need to get the two of them to the hospital. You need to come home right now. My car only has 2 kid seats, and we don't have a designated babysitter." Derek says, rushing around.
"Okay. I have gauze and a bunch of stuff in my purse, which is... with me. Damn it. That's not going to help, is it. Wait, in my night stand on my side of the bed I have gauze, and tape. I also have a suture kit and some gloves. Don't ask why I have it there, but I do. It's in the top drawer, and just hurry Derek. I should have been home already. I had to make plans with my mother." I explain as I hurrily change directions and start speeding toward home.
About ten minutes later I get home, and walk- no, run, through the door to find a bloody trail across the oak floors, and a shattered glass cup and a book on the floor, and Zola sitting calmly at the table, eating a bowl of cereal, reading a book.
"Zola, where's your father, and Mis and Bailey and Kate?" I ask her frantically.
"Hey Mom. Dad and them are all in your bedroom. Bailey cut his foot really badly, and Kate's still screaming and I think something happened to her head. Mia accidentally pushed my book at Kate's food, which fell into her, upsetting her, so she put her feet up against the table and pushed back and hit her head when she fell. Idk how she did it, she's around half a year, so... If you wanna go check on them, they might need the extra hands Mom. Oh, and btw, I want to go-" Zola was cut off by me rushing past her to my room.
"We can talk about whatever you want to do later, okay Zozo?" I say.
"Yeah Mom." Zola says, turning back to her cereal.
I rush into our bedroom, and see Derek, trying to get Bailey to cooperate, and sit still, and Mia and Kate's screaming.
"Hey, I'm here. What can I do?" I ask, ready to grab the two who aren't bleeding everywhere and rush them with Zola to the hospital, and wait for Derek.
"Derek, let me get that. Take the other three to the car and I'll be a minute behind you guys. I promise." I tell him.
He nods, and picks up Mia and Kate, and walks out into the rest of the house, resumably told Zola to get into the car.
I turn my attention to my wounded son. "Hey Bailey, where does it hurt? Can you tell Mama?" I ask him.
"Mama, it hurts. Shiny clear pieces in my foot, and it hurts all over Mama!" Bailey cries.
"Hush baby. I'm here, Mama's here." I console him as I pick him up, grab a wad of gauze, and carry him to the car.
"Zola, move to the front. I need to be back here with Bailey. I don't care that you're not old enough yet. It's an emergency. Derek, drive as fast and as safely as is possible. Zola's in the front seat this time." I say as I set Bailey in his seat, and move Mia's seat to where Bailey's seat was, and throw his in the back. I hold him, and nestle myself between a screaming Kate and a sad and scared Mia. "GO Derek!" I say, as we pull out of the drive way and towards Grey Sloan.
