CHAPTER 8

*At work three weeks later in morning*

"Ugh, Cristina, I feel so crappy. What do i do?"

"Well, first things first, what the hell has gotten into you Mer? One moment you're happy, the next you're- you're pregnant aren't you. Congrats!" Cristina says with vague excitement.

"Yes, I am. One second." I take a detour into the bathroom, hurl then walk back outside. "So how's Alex? Have you guys started planning your wedding yet?" I ask, trying to distract myself from the wave of nausua washing over me again.

"I have, i've started looking at dresses. I'm thinking white, moddled after a 1950s style, short, knee length, with cap sleves, and a high neck line. A simple satin, design, and buttons down the back with a pale, almost white looking lace trim. Is that too much?"

"Uh, that should be fine, depending in the style, I guess. Actually, it'll be perfect for you." I say.

"Good, Because I have it with me in my locker. Let's go try it on." She says with a smile.

So as we were walking to the locker room, Cristina goes on rambling about how she's so excited to be getting married, and how she was so happy for me and Derek, and other random happy person crap. We arrive a minute later.

"Okay, I'll be right out. You'll have to botton me up, but it'll be amazing."

"Okay, I just have to go to the bathroom." I walk into the ajoining bathroom, and walk into a stall and hurl, and walk back out just as She comes out with her arms holding the dress together in the back. "Mer, this is when you rush over to help me." She reminds me. I walk over and button up the million buttons, and then she spins around, and the skirt fills with air and puufs up, making it look like a princess dress from the 1800s.

"This looks better than I imagined it Cristina! You look wonderful!" I say just as I see a figure walking up to the locker room. "Wait a second." I walk over, and I see Alex. "Whoa there. You can't come in. Cristina is there in her dress, and you can't see her. Now don't you have another patient to check on?" Alex at first gives me a weird look, but then goes along with it for his fiancés sake.

"Yes Dr Grey, I do have another patient. And congrats about the new baby coming. Derek told me like ten minutes ago."

"Go, I have stuff to do." I say as I walk back in, and see Derek in there, looking at me. I hadn't reamized that he had been in there, but appariently he was. "Why on earth did you tell Alex?" I shout at him. Cristina was in a changing stall next to the bathroom.

"I figured that you'd have already told Cristina, so I felt it safe to tell Alex!" He responded back, equally as loud.

"I did, but you could have asked me. That's all." I say, lowering my voice.

"Next time I will, dear. I promise. Now, I say our shifts are over. Let's go home and get something to eat, and once we get the kids down, we can have a night to ourselves. How does that sound?".
"That sounds amazing. One problem though... Little Fetus is more awake at night than during the day. I can just feel it. It takes a mothers instinct to know that. " I reply
"Well, you are a mother, so you do have that instinct. "
"Speaking of mothers... mine is coming up to see the kids. " I say.
Derek gives me a shocked look but then rinks better of it. It turns into a slightly silly smile, like he's trying to hide something.
"Derek, what's going on? Did you invite my mother?". I say kind of loudly.
He blushes and answers a quiet "Yes, they haven't met the kids yet, so I figured it was time..."
"THEM...?!" I cut him off.
"Yeah, your mother and Richard... is that such a crime to have the Chief and his girlfriend..."
"GIRLFRIEND?!!?!" I screech. "MY MOTHER, ELLIS GREY THE WORLD CLASS SURGEON, AND RICHARD WEBBER, THE CHIEF AT GREY SLOAN?!" I go back to a normal talking level, "Derek, what on earth were you thinking?".
"That my three kids haven't met their grandmum yet, and also my family is coming too. My three sisters and my mum. Hope you don't mind."
"Yeah, no, it's totally fine. I dot mind at all. "
"Oh, and you know my sister, the neurosurgeon, Amelia? She's coming to the hospital. For a case. With you. She's bringing one in. I hope you don't mind. "
"Yeah, it's fi- wait, what? Amy is coming to Seattle? When did you find out? Can she cook?" I ask with curiosity.
"Well, I honestly don't know. I'll ask." Derek replies.
He pulls out his phone and searches through his contacts for Amelia's phone number. He then puts the sleek glass next to his ear, "Amy, yeah, it's me, Derek. Listen, my Meredith was wondering if you could cook? You can, well, obviously, I'm sorry I had to ask! Amy, don't be offended please! Sorry I hurt your pride. You're an hour away, wow, that's great! I'll send a car for you at the airport. Okay! See you in a few hours! Love you too Amy. "
"So, good news. Amy can cook, she kind of fed me when our mom was busy. And she's said that the plane is about an hour away! So she's going to be here soon!".
"Yay," I say as I get up and walk to the door of the conference room.

*Meredith is now 8.5 months pregnant*
"Derek, where are my sandals? I thought they were next to the bench here. "
"Mer, dear, they're in the closet. I'll grab them for you. But please don't wear sandals at work. At least wear your converse that you love so much. "
I think, then nod in agreement. He walks away to grab the keys, and them I feel some pinching or pulling of my body, way worse than menstrual cramps, but a similar feeling, just a lot worse. "Derek, think you could hurry up with the shoes? I-I think I'm starting to have contractions...". I say loudly enough for him to hear me across the house.
"Yeah, one second. "He says just as another contraction starts. Seven minutes apart... That's not good...
