A year ago, Adeline woke up in the Box. Sent up into the Glade, in the middle of a Maze amongst forty teenage boys, Adeline is the first and only girl. Like her, they don't remember who they were before the Ma...

It was the next day after the Bonfire. The day after Thomas arrived. The morning after the wrestling match that Adeline had won against Gally. Boys were still talking about it as Adeline wandered into the Kitchen that morning. That morning, Adeline helped Frypan serve up breakfast to the crowd of boys lining up for their food. The Builder just happened to be served by her, but Gally couldn't even look at her without glaring daggers at her. When Newt stopped before her as she served him breakfast, he told her to ignore the Keeper, so Adeline didn't let it get to her. If he couldn't get over the fact that Adeline beat him in the wrestling match last night, it wasn't her problem and she had her job to focus on rather than the Builders temper. Once all the boys had dispersed to their tables for breakfast, Frypan handed her a plate of food and sent her off for the morning, until she was needed for lunch.
"How's your shoulder this mornin'?" Newt asked as Adeline finally settled down for breakfast, sliding into the seat beside the Second - in - Command. Adeline woke with a still aching shoulder, but it wasn't as sore as it had been. Unfortunately, it didn't stop her from slaving over the stovetop to cook enough scrambled eggs for the Gladers.
"Sore, but nothin' to worry 'bout." Adeline reassured. Newt pushed his plate away, having just finished his own breakfast, while Adeline would always eat hers last due to the fact she had been up bright and early with the other Cooks. It was the only down side of the job — getting leftovers and eating while everyone else finished theirs. Newt sat with her as she ate her breakfast, like he usually does, until she'd finished and he had to officially go do his job. Although Second - in - Command, Newt worked in the Gardens alongside the other Track - Hoe's. Adeline collected his plate, alongside her own to go help the Sloppers, like she did after breakfast every morning.
"See ya at lunch." Newt bid, getting to his feet.
"See ya." Adeline bid back, giving a slight nod. The blonde turned on his heels and limped off towards the Gardens, while Adeline began to help the Sloppers collect the dirty plates, cups and cutlery from the now empty wooden picnic tables. Boys had officially gone to begin their jobs for the day — although the Runners and Cooks started early morning, right as the Doors rumbled open — leaving the Cooks and Sloppers to finish their jobs for the morning.
Adeline's rest of the morning consists of scrubbing at plates and cups and drying them, stacking them up back onto the serving counter, before lunch would be started not long after. Adeline and Frypan sat at the kitchen counter, pondering what to serve for lunch. Frypan wanted to serve leftover stew from last night, Adeline said that they should just serve them sandwiches again. As they sat there, pondering over lunch ideas — which was a normal thing to happen as a Cook — their normal morning would've faded into a normal afternoon, if the next events didn't occur. Their debating was cut short, when there was screaming from the forest. Adeline perked up at the sound, as did Frypan. They moved from their spots, noticing someone fleeing from the forest. Adeline would've rolled her eyes once she noticed that it was Thomas — she'd presumed he'd seen the Graveyard and freaked out — when she noticed someone close on his heels like a wild, rabid animal. Only then did Frypan point out who was chasing the Newbie.
