31 → "YOU GUYS ARE NUTS"

Adeline doesn't know how many blocks she's covered, but her weakening body makes each movement feel like hell. Block after block, Adeline dragged her body, grunting in agony, breaking into coughing fit after coughing fit. Until, the building came into view. Coming to a quick stop, doubling over and breaking out into another coughing fit, Adeline ears pick up the sound of shattering glass, and when she peers up, she watches as three figures leap from however stories high, plummeting down. Adeline wouldn't have known who was that crazy to jump from so many stories high, if two voices didn't shrill that one name on their way down;

"Thomas!"

"You've got to be kidding me." Adeline mutters, still regaining her breathing.

Pushing herself to keep moving on, Adeline gets closer to the building, right as the three bodies emerge from the fountain before the WCKD building. The first to resurface was Thomas, then Newt. The last, however, Adeline recognised to be Minho. And she couldn't believe it. Swimming toward the edge of the fountain, the three boys pull themselves up and out of the water, only to be stopped by four soldiers.

"You three, don't move." The four soldiers cock their guns in the boys direction. Using the remaining strength in her legs, Adeline pushes off on the soles of her feet, moving toward the back of the van close by. Skidding to a stop, Adeline pressed her back against the side of the van door, watching as the boys stand there in shock, dripping wet after just plummeting however stories down into the water fountain. With trembling hands and her weakening arms, Adeline pulls out her gun from it's holster, pointing it out in front of her, walking slowly toward the armed guards.

"Drop it!" The girl bellows, which draws the attention of the three sloping wet boys and two closest guards to notice the armed girl. Thomas, Newt and Minho's mouths drop in shock at the sight of her with her weapon raised, while the two guards sweep their weapon in the direction of the sick girl.

"Drop your weapon!" One of the guards demands, but Adeline doesn't drop her aim. "Drop it or we'll shoot!"

"Adeline, just drop it!" Newt orders, but Adeline doesn't listen.

"Listen to the boy, girl ...." Another guard threatens the girl. Two guards move closer toward the girl, until their weapons are not even inches from her body. Eyeing the guards weapons pointed at her body, their fingers hovering over the triggers, Adeline's body trembles. With trembling hands, the gun drops from Adeline's fingers and tumbles onto the ground. "Good ... now, you three. Get on your knees with your hands in the air!"

But, before the boys can obey the guards command, one of the guards sweeps their weapon and fires a handful of electricity grenades at the other three guards instead. The three guards drop to their knees, before collapsing on their backs, twitching and spasming on the ground. Adeline backs away slowly, Newt reaching out to pull her toward him. The four of them stared, dumbfounded, at the guard who'd just turned on the others. The guard moves away from the other three, rushing toward the four of them, before pulling the mask from over their head. But, just as they do, Adeline recognised the familiar face that stares back at the four of them, suddenly relieved of who it was.
