Twenty Two | Of ferris wheels and cotton candy
D a n i y a:
We had the most wonderful time in McDonald's play area. The kids there were awesome! They did shoot us weird looks in the start and that was completely justifiable because you hardly saw two adults in the play area. But then, they warmed up to us when we declared war and started throwing balls all over the place.
A waitress had to come over to see what the chaos was all about and I had to say her eyes practically bulged out of their sockets when she saw my Dad and I, playing with the other kids. Dad didn't even notice her but I did and quickly looked away when she met my eye, embarrassed.
Even though, Dad told me to forget about what other people thought, I still did care because, well, old habits die hard.
And it was impossible not to notice them, when said people were staring holes in your body. I pointed that out to Dad but he waved me off,
"Little kids don't care if people are staring holes in to them."
"But, Daddy -"
"No buts. Are you enjoying yourself?"
"Yeah," I admitted. "But-"
"No buts, sweetheart. Be happy. Forget. You are getting a second chance at growing up. Seize it because I am not going to do this with you every week."
"Okay, Daddy." I replied softly while simultaneously thanking God for blessing me with the most awesome father on the face of this Earth.
The poor kids were disappointed when we announced that we were leaving. One of the girls actually begged us to say and I almost gave in but Dad just ruffled her hair and told her that maybe fate would enjoin us together once more.
"But, Sir! I want to play more. Daddy never plays with me like this!" The girl named Lydia said desperately.
Strands of black hair strung lose on her face. Pouting, she tugged at Daddy's shirt and I was struck by how easily everyone seemed to love him. Just like everyone fell in love with Haris.
Who knew? Maybe all guys had that charm.
"Your Daddy must be older than me, then," My father smiled at Lydia.
"He's never at home either," She ignored his comment, continuing to guilt trip him. I couldn't help but laugh a little. You should never under estimate a girl's convincing abilities, no matter what the age.
"He must be at work, dear. How could you get the money to play here if he didn't work?" Dad asked.
"But don't you work?" She wondered.
"I do but I've taken a week off," He said, kneeling down to pinch her cheeks. "Ask your Daddy to spend more time with you as well. He needs to realize that you are a pretty princess, not to be ignored."
