Adaeze noticed Nnenne's countenance. She cleared her throat to draw her attention.

"No need to ponder, you don't have to sleep with him. He's a friend of mine, I'd just give you a letter for him and he'd help you immediately."

Nnenne looked at her and smiled warmly but Adaeze could still see the fear in her eyes.
"It's like you don't need the money" she teased.
"Ofcourse I need it. Why would you say that?"
"Then correct your mood and go and prepare. He's always around in the night. From 8pm you can meet up with him." She urged.

Nnenne grinned faintly, stood up and took off her clothes about to take her bath as it was already 6:30pm. Adaeze gave her a once over.

"Biko—Please wear something nice oh. Remember they say the way you dress is the way you'd be addressed" she reminded.

Nnenne was embarrassed as she looked at the dress and brown flip flop sandals laying in her corner. It was an A-line off shoulder layered mary amaka—extremely long gown. The red color was already pale from too much washing.

"What is that one?" Adaeze asked, irritated and began ransacking her box for better dresses.

She showed Nnenne many revealing clothes but she refused saying "I'm going to beg for money not seduce the man Ada". Adaeze rolled her eyes in exasperation and showed her the last gown.
"Since you want to look like Choir mistress, oya take this one"

It was a yellow and white floral printed chiffon sleeveless dress that stopped below her knee. Nnenne smiled, collected it and placed it on her bed and headed to the bathroom.

20 MINUTES LATER, Adaeze was busy arranging her box when Nnenne's Nokia 3310 placed on her bed rang out. She looked to the bed thoughtfully. She wondered if she should pick or just let it be but then, she reached and picked it up.

"Hello" She answered
"Hello, Miss George"
Adaeze was about to inform him that Nnenne wasn't available at the moment but then she hesitated and pretended to be her instead.

"Yes, is there any news sir?" She asked
"Yes there is good news actually. Your mum's bills have been paid and we are prepping her for the operation"

Adaeze's face clouded with bitterness. She wondered who would've been able to pay the money so quickly, only her and Oluchi knew about Nnenne's mother's situation.

The doctor on the other hand kept calling out to her. In rage, she hung up
"Nonsense!!" She remarked, her face twisted in fury.
"Thank God I'm the one that picked and not her." she said as she slapped her forehead in relief.

Hearing Nnenne's footsteps approaching, she quickly deleted the call from the received call list "I'm sorry Nnenne, but the news about your mum would have to wait" she said with a shady smile before she dropped the phone and seemed to continue what she was doing.

When Nnenne came in, Adaeze rushed and urged her to hurry up with the excuse that the man had other people to attend to. Nnenne didn't complain but took it as her being a supportive friend. So she dressed up and left speedily.

AYOMIDE's HOUSE:

A black and yellow rickety taxi parked on the left side of the two lane road. The cab man instructed her to cross over on the pretext that she didn't pay him enough money. Nnenne was too flabbergasted by the house to even argue with him.
