LANRE's RESIDENCE
Nnenne was sound asleep, yet her body remained restless. She felt as though she was being watched, like a figure drew closer to her each passing minute. Her eyes bolted open to the sound of a shattered glass in the kitchen. She sat up immediately, her eyes frozen open and her features trembling.Nnenne scanned the room, her forehead wrinkled in confusion.
"Lanre?" She called out."Is that you?"
"You don't have to scare me..I'm already mad at you. Don't add more problems for yourself." She point out.
The apartment remained as quiet as the hush of evening.
She stood up and reached for one of the golf clubs resting in a stand bag. She forwarded quietly to the door whilst still calling out to Lanre.
Anxiously, she twisted the knob and opened the door. Nnenne walked into the living room to see the door wide open. Her fear and curiosity peaked. Her thoughts ran along with fear.
Did I leave the door open she wondered.
Too scared to think of anything worse. She shrugged off the thought, smacked her teeth with the tip of her tongue.
Silly me, I probably left it open. She remarked as she reached and shut the door. She sighed and started to the kitchen, her phone rang."He's probably calling to praise himself again" she rolled her eyes.
Nnenne rushed to the room and reached for the phone on the bed-side drawer.
"So we finally have enough proof to win the case" lanre blurted out, joyfully.
Nnenne pouted her lips and remained quiet. He noticed her silence, smirked and rolled his eyes
"We also have enough proof to get Adaeze behind bars"
Nnenne refused to say a word.
"Oh como'n don't tell me you're still mad!"
"It's not like you would've been able to do a better job than I did"Lanre knew the only way to get her to speak was to annoy her even more, so he went on.
"I already had everything figured out"
Nnenne's eyes squinted and her mouth squeezed together in irritation. She hated it whenever he bragged.
"I'm pretty sure you would've ruined it all" he smiled, cheeky
Nnenne had had it up to her throat, she took in a deep breath and blurted out.
"Oh, cocky now..aren't you?"
"I knew that would get you're attention" he remarked, coyly.
Nnenne winced and ranted on. She circled the room repeatedly, venting out her petty frustration while Lanre grinned sheepishly as he drove. He always found her petty arguments adorable and her rants entertaining.
Yet again, they both heard another sound emanate from the living room. Nnenne's head turned to the door reflexively and curiosity clouded lanre's features.
"What was that?" Lanre asked, peering.
"I don't know"
"I heard a glass shatter earlier, but when I went there it was nothing. It's probably just a rat"
"There are no rats in the house" he said straight-faced.
Nnenne knew he hated rats and roaches and that was her way of paying him back for being a pain in her neck.
"You sure? Cause last I checked, I was living with one." she taunted.
Lanre squinted his eyes in irritation. He was about to speak when another sound emanated from the living room and this time it was closer and louder.
"Are you sure you're alone?"
"Yes I am"
"I'd just go see what fell this time" she breathed.
"No, don't go anywhere. Sit your ass in the room. I'm almost home." He cautioned.
"No. Not this time. You had your way with the Adaeze plan, but I can take care of myself. She said as she walked to the living room."
She walked around and saw the remote faced flat on the floor.
"See it's just the remote" she said as she lowered and picked it.
She raised her head to drop the remote on the center table when her eyes caught an image of two men standing behind her through the tv.
A sudden sense of fear ran through her veins like an electric current. She gasped and turned quickly.
Lanre's heart skipped a beat.
"What's wrong?!" He asked, jittery.
"Nnenne!"
"What was that?!"Nnenne drew back slowly. She observed them with shaky eyes as her hand searched and reached out for the nearest object to protect herself.
"Who are you? What do you want from me?" She asked, breath ragged.
"Nnenne!"
"Who's with you?!" Lanre kept asking.
"What's going on?!""I don't know who they are!" She replied with trembling voice.
"Okay! I need you to get out of there now!"
"Get out right now!" Lanre said with bulging eyes.
"Do whatever you can! Just get the hell out of there right now!"
"I'm coming!!"Nnenne stood still, paralyzed in fear as sweat drenched her skin. Her hand trembled at her sides. She looked fearfully in different directions and back at the scary men.
She spotted an opening and made a run for it, but was blocked at once. Without hesitation and without remorse, they covered her nose with a handkerchief. She struggled, her hands squeezed his hand across her face, begging for breath with eyes widened.
As Lanre heard her stifled screaming, his fist clenched and his eyes widened. His heart thumped against his chest. Repeatedly, he called out to her.
In satisfaction, they watched her groan and whine until she fell unconscious to the floor and the phone escaped her hand. A man picked up the phone.
With a stony look at his men, he commanded sternly Take her to the car!"
He looked at the caller I.D, smirked maliciously and hung up. Not satisfied, he threw it to the ground smashed it with his boots.
Lanre already tensed and frightened, increased the speed of his car and began to drive recklessly.
