Adaeze continued to stare, her pupils dilated in shock and her face white. Her hand was seated on her cheek. Lanre was about to speak, but dithered when he looked over at Nnenne.
He gripped Adaeze tightly by her wrist. She continued to look at him, gloom deformed her face as he pulled her along to the hospital doorway.
He hurled her before the door. She staggered a while and balanced, the inside corners of her eyebrows slanted upwards as she watched him.
"You can't believe I could slap you right?!" He asked, glaring at her. Adaeze gulped and her eyes and head shook in daze.
"That's just a glimpse of how Nnenne must be feeling to know she has a demon instead of a friend!"
"I can't believe you could be so filthy!. No, scratch that. I know you are filthy!. You've reached the peak of shamelessness and insanity!" He mentioned and went on."You've scarred her for life and you're still not satisfied! what more do you want to do, that you haven't done?! What else is left?!" He shouted.
"You can call me whatever you like!" Adaeze replied, indifferently.
"But you already know that I'm ready to go to any lengths to get what I want!""I can see you've clearly gone mad!" Lanre said, glowering at her
"Yes! mad! I am madly in love!" She agreed.
"You know fully well that I'm doing all these, because I love y—"His jaw clenched and he cut in.
"—Do you even know what Love is?!
"You're not even worthy to utter the word, talk less of experiencing the emotion itself!" He said, pointing at her with four fingers.
"How can you talk about love when you've failed to show love to your best friend?!"Adaeze gazed on, her eyes clouding.
"It would be best if you don't utter that word again, because it could go foul in a mouth as dirty as yours!" Lanre reminded.
"I'm ready to sacrifice everything for you, but you still can't see how much I love you Lanre. All your blinded with is Nnenne. What's so different between Nnenne and Adaeze anyway?!" She asked.
Lanre looked at her with arched eyebrows. "You'd have to be born again and again and again and again to have qualities like that of Nnenne" he said and walked away, leaving Adaeze staring after him in sadness.
"I haven't come this far to go back empty. Adaeze has always been known for getting what she wants and she won't start to loose now" Adaeze murmured, wiped her tears and left the hospital.
Lanre walked into the hospital room, about to apologize to Nnenne on behalf of Adaeze, but was stunned when he raised his head to see that she wasn't there.
The drip needle was laying on the bed with tiny blood stains around it and on the sheets.
He walked in tensed, his eyes searching around the room.
"Nnenne!" He called out repeatedly, as he searched the bathroom.
