Nnenne whimpered as she watched Adaeze look over her. Nnenne had never seen Adaeze look that way, her eyes had a deadness. There was tears, but Nnenne knew these tears weren't coming from a place of remorse but cold, deep and long brewing hatred.
In that moment, Nnenne knew her friend was already far away and like always she was the enemy. A final glance at her furious eyes confirmed Nnenne's possible outcome. Adaeze was going to kill her and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it.
Lanre furtively walked his way through the bushes and the men. He was heading for Adaeze and Nnenne. He figured that if he could collect the gun or knock her unconscious then he would save Nnenne and Adaeze would finally end up in jail.
He also knew that there was a possibility that the men could spot him before he would get to Adaeze and design his body with bullets. But, that didn't scare him as much as the thought of watching Adaeze pull the trigger and Nnenne die right before him.
He ducked under the bushes when he saw one of the thugs look in his direction. He monitored each of them through the bushes.
"This men won't just stand and watch me beat up Adaeze. I have to get rid of them before I can get to her. But how can I do that" he murmured to himself.
"They've got rifles and I've got nothing—"BOOM!! another gun shot fired. Lanre ducked and turned immediately to see Adaeze's smoking gun yet again and Nnenne in pain holding on to her left shoulder.
"Your death isn't going to be so easy Nnenne. You have put me through so much pain. After everything I've done for you, all you've done in exchange is take everything away from me"
"I didn't take anything away from you Ada" Nnenne cried, crawling backwards in terror.
"You're like a sister to me—"
"—WE ARE NOT SISTERS!!!" She interrupted with a thundering voice.Eruptions of crazed, intermittent laughter escaped Adaeze's mouth as she placed her hand by the sides of her head.
"Sister??" She asked, and dropped her hands.
"What kind of sister would take everything you love away from you?? huh?!!" She cocked the gun in anger.
Adaeze drew closer to Nnenne, she planted the gun to her head and asked again.
"What kind of sister would be so ungrateful as to take everything you've ever wanted so whole heartedly?"Nnenne's heart pounded in her ears. Was this how she was going to end? what would happen to her mother at home? who would look after her? All these questions ran through her mind at once. She wasn't ready to die.
"Please, I beg you. Please, I swear to you. I didn't take anything from you. Please, don't kill me Ada. For the sake of our friendship"
"Friendship?" She giggled maniacally and her face soon straightened.
"Well that friendship ended when you decided to betray me"
"NOW, I'm going to make sure I break you piece by piece till you beg me to kill you."
"And when you think it's finally all over, I'd cut your body up in pieces like a native doctor would do a girl he wants to sacrifice."
"Ada, Please I beg you....Pleaseeeeeee..pleaseeeee don't kill me..."
"My mum has no one else" She cried out even louder."I could care less about your mother"
Adaeze kept talking when they heard branches twig in the bush.
"I told you he'd come for me sooner or later" Nnenne boasted. Adaeze slammed her in the face with the head of the gun and jerked her head up at the thugs, alerting them and giving them orders to check up on the sound and report to her.She was filled with mixed emotions. She was glad that he had come to rescue her, but again she was even more terrified that she could loose him in the process. Deep down she preferred if he hadn't come at all. She didn't want his life to be traded for hers.
Lanre snuck to the other bush covering he was before.
That should keep them occupied he thought to himself.
Now to get rid of this one...
