After several painful strokes, the ropes finally came loose. Nnenne closed her eyes and let out a relieved sigh. She was too scared to think of the cut on her palms. She lifted her body to her feet and untied the rope as well. She scanned around looking for the closest avenue to escape.

LANRE's Residence (6:30pm)
Lanre was pacing back and forth his room, his brain was tied up in knots. He kept drumming his fingers on his sides. All he could see was Nnenne being miserable again and his thoughts taunted him with how much of a failure he was.

With so much perseverance, he tried to block out all the negative thoughts so he could come up with a solution. His eyes popped out as he remembered that he put cameras around the house for Nnenne's safety.

He scurried to his bedside drawer, picked up his laptop and checked the footage from a few hours ago. Fortunately, the complete footage was still there. He smiled at the laptop screen, seeing he now had enough evidence against Adaeze.

With so many plans going through his mind, he now had enough reason to go for the conference. He quickly put the footage into a flash drive and rushed to the telephone to call Oluchi.

"Hello, who's this?" Oluchi answered.
"Oluchi, it's Lanre. I need—"
"—Lanre? Are you mad?" She cut in with a worry voice.
"I've been calling your line since I saw your Instagram story...Why ain't you picking up! Do you know how worried I've been! Neither you nor Nnenne are picking up!"
"Trust me, You don't wanna know what's happening. I don't have enough time to talk rn, just meet me at the department office by 7:30 and I'd tell you everything"
"Why can't you tell me now?"
"Look, Nnenne's mother has been calling non-stop. I can't ignore her anymore. You have to tell me something. Let me know what's happening"
"Just listen to me now please"
"I don't have time" he emphasized.
"Okay okay, I'd meet you there"
"Get there before me, so no one would see you enter"
"Okay, you're scaring me now!"
"What's with all the sneaking around?"
"Oluchi just trust me pls"
"Okay okay, I've—" Lanre dropped the call quickly as he heard one of the men pushed his bedroom door open.

"Who were you talking to?!" The man asked in a deep voice that carried anger along with it.
"No one!" Lanre answered quickly and shifted in front of the telephone to cover it.

"You think you're smart huh?" The man commented as he pushed him out of the way.

He took the telephone and smashed it against the wall, he took a step closer to Lanre, till his eye balls were looking right at Lanre's.

"Don't even try to play smart!" He threatened and jerked his arms to scare Lanre. He stepped back, gave lanre a once over and walked towards the door.

He turned around,
"Get dressed, we're leaving!" He roared and slammed the door behind him.

Lanre's heart was slowly coming back from his stomach to his chest. He drew his hand from behind and let out a relieved grunt. He opened his palms and stared at the tiny flash which he almost squeezed the life out of.

He dropped it in his trouser pocket and started to put on his shirt and in a couple seconds he was ready.

Nnenne looked around the storage. Her eyes trembling in fear as she could not come up with the easiest way to escape. Hearing the words from the thug's mouth made her hairs stand.

Not cause she was scared of dying, but cause dying meant leaving her poor mother alone to fend for herself. She may have wanted to end it all before, but now more than ever she was determined to fight. She heard the men's footsteps draw close to the door.
