                              Tyler POV
It was getting late around 5pm. I'd been sat on a bench opposite Carl's ice cream shop for hours. When me and Cassie were very little, our parents would always bring us for ice cream at Carl's shop after primary school. It was Cassie's favourite place in town. Every time she'd order the chocolate fudge monster sundae and I would have the vanilla ice sundae. Her sundae would come with a cherry and mine a chocolate wafer. Since I loved cherries and she loved chocolate wafers we'd always swap. It was our tradition and the best place in town to hangout. Carl always called us his regulars and because we were there most of the time he'd sometimes give us our sundaes for free. I couldn't help smiling, reminiscing of all the good memories we had at that place.
I'd texted and rung Cassie numerous times yet she never replied. Cassie always texted or rang me back; even if she was busy. By now I was sick to my stomach with worry. What if something had happened and I hadn't been there to save her? I couldn't bear waiting any longer, so I went to look for her at the last place I knew she was: the hospital. Plus I could check in with Cory, to see if he was awake yet and had any recollection of what had happened.
Thankfully my parents were on a business trip abroad else they'd be panicking why I never came home last night. I was lost in my thoughts and fears of what could've happened when my car pulled up in the hospital car park. I got out and proceeded to the reception. I was anxious being in a hospital, as it was a place filled with so much blood and people. The man at the desk told me where to find Cory at floor 3B, room 21.
When I got out of the lift I saw the back of a familiar red head before they darted out of sight down another hallway. I was sure I recognised that head. No it can't be her- can it? I shook the thought off and went into Cory's room only to find an empty bed and detached machines. If Cory was in surgery the man at reception would've told me and I would've at least seen Cassie looking nervous and chewing her finger nails. A habit she had never fully grown out of when she was anxious. The worst seemed to have been confirmed, but right now I needed to find exactly what that was. I saw a female doctor with a badge that read Dr Finch. Her eyes looked blank like a robot which I thought was odd. I stood directly in her line of eyesight yet she looked passed me like I wasn't even there. So I decided to address the doctor directly," Excuse me I was wondering where I could find your patient Cory Adams?" I said inquisitively. This time she finally looked at me, but in confusion. "I'm sorry sir, but we don't have a patient called Cory Adams." "Thanks anyway doctor." I mumbled.
I finally understood why the doctor was acting so strange. My worst suspicions had come true-she had been compelled. A vampire was involved for definite and I had a pretty good guess of who, but who I thought it was should be dead.
Eventually I had swept the whole of the floor and had seen neither Cory or Cassie. Apparently the doctors didn't even know Cory existed, let alone that he was a patient here. A few hours later I had searched every floor of the hospital and had to use most of my willpower to move past the storage rooms where the blood bags were kept. Just as I was about to give up hope searching for Cassie and Cory I came across a wooden boarded up hallway. That looked like it had been abandoned for a while. Using my vampire hearing I could hear a draft creeping underneath the door and strong winds whistling, almost screaming down the hallway.
I decided to ask at reception what the hallway used to be used for because if Cory and Cassie had been kidnapped, like I thought they had, this would be the perfect place to hide them. Since it was hidden in plain sight with so many people here and most people would think it is out of use.
This time instead of a middle aged man greeting me at the desk, there was a woman in her early fifties, with brunette hair streaked with grey and she was wearing blue glasses. She seemed uninterested in my presence and instead latched her eyes onto the computer in front of her. I cleared my throat to attract her attention, yet she didn't look up once. I gave up trying to get her to look at me and spoke instead.
"What did the abandoned hallway on the bottom floor used to be used for?" I asked.
"Employee protocol, I am forbidden to give out that information." She replied unimpressed.
Any normal person would've just left their curiosity at bay, but this was a matter of life or death. A vampire was holding my two best friends! I'd had enough of this woman's rotten attitude and shoved my hand in front of the monitor. Forcing her to look up at me.
"Listen-lady-",  I stuttered before I found her name tag:Fern, "I mean Fern- I need to know exactly what the abandoned hallway used to be used for. After you tell me forget I ever asked and that you ever saw me."
My eyes bored into hers using my supernatural powers to compel her to tell me. Normally I would never compel anyone to tell me the truth, but I desperately needed to know the answer to my question.
"It used to be a psychiatric ward where those mentally ill were treated in the 20th century."
"Thank you kindly." I replied and left the reception desk.
I figured that by the howling wind coming through the forbidden hallway there must be an entrance around the outside of the building. I needed to find a way in, I needed to save my friends....
