The one thing that could be certain of Rachel was that she always kept her word. Yet I still can't trust her by any means. Rachel never said anything about not hurting my friends further. I remember clearly how she told Cassie and Cory she'd wait till I arrived to rescue them before she'd kill them in front of me! I can't let that happen.
Which is why I've been travelling for 3 hours and am 5 miles outside of London in the suburb of Black heath to get reinforcements. Despite it being a year ago when I left London, it seemed only yesterday I was back there....
*Flashback*
As a newbie vampire I had learnt the hard way that the sun burns! The pain is far greater as a vampire when you get sunburnt compared it being red and a little sore when you're a mundane. Since when you're a vampire the sunlight sears through each layer of skin and hurts like hell. The smell of your own flesh cooking in the sun is enough to make anyone feel sick and revolted!
By my guess of how far the sun's moved east to west along the sky, it's been a few hours since I escaped the crumbling cave and Rachel's wrath. In the few hours passed I've been staggering through the countryside lost and alone. My physical state growing weaker and weaker the longer I denied my bloodlust for human blood. Whilst my longing and hunger only intensified. My former resolve of dying before drinking human blood quickly slipping away. As the natural born hunter within me began to take hold.
It's getting dark as nightfall descends. I'm half sitting, half lying down under the cover of an evergreen tree shaded by its foliage. When in the distance my ears pick up two voices. Out of the two voices I distinguish one was a girl and one was a boy. By my intensified sense of smell I could tell one of them was cut. Not badly, but just enough to give off the ever tempting scent of blood. To a vampire the scent of blood is like dangling a bone in front of a dog- irresistible.
They're heading towards me and before I knew it the animal in me takes over almost completely. It charges towards the two seemingly unsuspecting humans and is hit by a massive surge of white light. From the blast I'm instantly knocked against a tree. I had a few bones broken, but with my supernatural healing they'd fix themselves soon enough. My attacker comes towards me and in this limited light my eyes make out a girl was a fair brown skin and hair as black as night. She looked at me with fascination and fierce frustration. It seemed as if it was the boy's turn to rally another attack on me and muttered another Latin incantation I couldn't translate. Using some kind of magic he kept me locked in the position at the tree and restricted my airway. So I could hardly breathe.
The girl spoke first, "Nathaniel he's a creature of the night." "I see dear sister we will have to justly deal with this vampire who attacked us." "Nathaniel hold on I think the little vamp wants to speak. Loosen his breathing restraints." Once I could breathe again I said, "Sorry I didn't want to attack you. I'm in transition. I smelled your cut further down in the forest- I couldn't resist." "It's okay. I forgive you just this once. We'll help him Nathaniel, won't we?" "You win this time baby sister." With a flick of Nathaniel's wrist sleep instantaneously took over my body.
I awoke with a fright, as the sun glaring through the glass windows. Why wasn't I burning? Why wasn't I dead? In my hunt for shade from the sun I collided with the girl I still didn't know the name of. "Easy there champ, watch where you're going." The girl said. "I need to find shade from the sun. How am I not dead?" "Take a chill pill speedo. I gave you some of my blood to complete your transition. As for the sun, me and my brother Nathaniel crafted you a daylight ring so you can walk in the sun." "Are you and your brother-. " "Witches? Yes we are. I can tell you more about that later. If I give you any more information about the supernatural world I think you brain might combust!" We both chuckled. "Thanks for saving my life. I don't know how I am going to make it up to you both." I replied. "How 'bout your name and getting to know you over a cup of coffee." "I would love that- my name's Tyler." "Mine's Maia nice to meet you Tyler." "Easy sister you don't have to flirt with every stray we pick off of the streets!" Nathaniel rudely replied. Maia rolled her eyes at her brother. "Relax Nathaniel Tyler means no trouble- isn't that right Tyler?" She looked at me gesturing for a reply. "Y-y-yes of course. Truly I mean no harm and I'm really sorry for my outburst in the forest yesterday." I said. Nathaniel smirked at me before saying, "Hey I should be the one apologising for going all big bro on you. That doesn't mean I won't be keeping a close eye on you though, but welcome to London my friend." Then Nathaniel pulled me into a bear hug and said, "Stay as long as you like."
*Present day*
5 miles later I was pulling up Maia and Nathaniel's drive to their home: Stone Ledge cottage. If anyone could help me save my friends and destroy Rachel in the process its's them.
