#I wanted to say I will be writing a second book. Which I can hopefully release soon. Please comment title suggestions. I also wanted to say: getting my first follower, almost 860 views and 13 votes so far is astonishing. Thanks for every person who's followed, read, voted or commented on my first ever wattpad book and first ever finished book. I never dreamed of my book getting this far! Cool fact I started writing this chapter as a fun end of year challenge in english. To get two achievements: #363 in TVD and #160 in BFF is mind-blowing and I'm extremely proud and grateful! Everything is deeply appreciated ;) Please comment your feedback.#Cassie POV
Nathaniel and Rachel stood smirking at us like we were their spoils from war. I didn't know what to make of Nathaniel, but I have plenty of outlandish comments to say about Rachel. Despite my head thrumming of pain at a thousand times per hour or the amount of blood I've lost, my concern was for Ty. He was ever so pale with his skin as white as snow. Yet I could tell he was trying to be strong; we all were.
Rachel whispered smugly in Nathaniel's ear and in an instance he was by his sisters side. He glared at each of us like a watchdog guarding his property. Whilst he turned his back to Rachel obscuring her view when he slipped a penknife to Maia. Dropping the Rachel's lapdog act, he looked at her pleadingly. At that all the tension gathered in Maia's shoulders slipped away. As she understood what her sibling wanted and immediately started to work on her restraints. Then I did Ty's. At first he refused, but I told him it would be too suspicious if we all had no rope binding our wrists. It would draw Rachel's attention like a moth to a flame. As if we weren't risking enough already. Before he could argue further- I freed him. Since he was in no condition to oppose me.
When Nathaniel stepped away from us, he almost instantly put up the wall he'd just broken down. Hiding his true intentions. In my now clear line of vision, I saw Cory. His nose was bloody. In fact blood was everywhere. All over his shirt and dripping down his body. His hair was frazzled and he looked in a terrible state. I couldn't help the tears that poured down my face. That was my best friend barely clinging onto life and I was powerless to stop the injustice. Ty's eyes were glassy too, threatening to flood, but knowing Tyler he would never admit this. Men and their pride. Why does emotion have to be cowardly? It's the opposite of that. It's letting the other person see you vulnerable the way no one else has. It's brave and commendable. If only Ty understood that.
I couldn't bear to see Cory suffer anymore. So before Rachel delivered the death shock. I screamed at the top of my lungs,
"Stoooooooooppppppp!!!!!" This got Rachel's attention. As her hand froze a millimetre from pressing the switch. I hadn't exactly thought this plan through as everyone's eyes land on me. Particularly Rachel's. Her eyes met mine with the same fierceness and resentment for each other.
"What is wrong with you?" I asked.
"Lots of things. I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific." Rachel sarcastically replied, examining her nails to show she was bored.
"What was the event that happened in your life that was so bad it turned you into a heartless monster? You have no compassion. No love, just a frozen block of ice that surrounds your heart. You're emotionless- no ability to show empathy. It's almost as if you're a robot-"
Rachel's face was a fixture of scarlet rage, self-loathing and a deep loneliness. I had surprised her. Judging by her silence.
I must've been so wrapped up in my mini speech that I hadn't noticed Nathaniel had left his sister's side and neither had Rachel. He mouthed to me 'KEEP TALKING!'. As in the left breast of his jacket he revealed to me a wooden stake. I nodded.
"Every person that cares about you; you hurt. Aren't you lonely? You must be. Doomed to spend an eternity alone with nothing left, but your vanity."
Every word I said felt like venom and tasted like acid in my mouth. In my entire life I had never been so cruel to anyone. I despised it and prided myself on being kind and considerate, but I needed to distract Rachel. To save my friends, the only way I could expose her weakness was to pry some emotion out of her was by being mean and it had worked.
"You think you're such a little miss know-it-all don't you. I'm going to enjoy your slow and antagonising death, I-", but before she could finish her sentence Nathaniel stabbed her straight through the heart. Her eyes went wide with shock. As blood dripped down her chin and a dark pool spread all over her red dress. Whilst she gritted her teeth.
"No one threatens my family!" Nathaniel confidently shouted.
Just as Rachel's skin began to turn grey and shrivel like old leather she pressed a trigger none of us realised she was holding. Departing with an evil grin, before the room erupted in a mass of explosions. As a surge of flames licked the place apart. Maia barely had time to murmur a latin incantation before the bombs went off. I flung my body around Ty. Burying my face in the crook of his neck to act as a human shield. Once my ears stopped ringing, I looked up, gazing upon a massive blue bubble surrounding all five of us from the bombs- a protection shield. So that's why Maia was muttering Latin-she's a witch! Maia instantly ran to the aid of her brother who was standing behind Rachel when the explosives were set off. She battled through the sea of smoke slowly choking us.
As I glanced down at Ty still sickly pale told me,
"Go get him"
"But I can''t leave you, you're dying" I replied half-choking back a sob.
"Maia can help me later, free Cory. Check he's alright." I weakly smiled and made a run through the mouth of clearing smoke to Cory. I unbuckled him and when I tried to heave him off the chair he slumped against me. He was in a far worse condition than I ever imagined. His ocean blue eyes faded to a dull grey. My thoughts were interrupted by an ear piercing scream. It was Maia. She was cradling Nathaniel's body. He looked so limp in her arms. I could hear his shallow breathing. I propped Cory against the wall and knelt down beside Nathaniel. Some of the shrapnel had imbedded itself in his heart. There was nothing to be done. Maia held her brothers hand and was crying a flood of tears as any sister would. Drowning in grief in her brother final moments.
Although I didn't know Nathaniel well he had saved our lives.
"I know we barely know each other, but thank you for saving all of our lives. You're our hero." I said as I held his hand. Nathaniel briefly nodded and gave me a warm smile. His breathing was becoming shorter and more close together. He turned his attention to Maia.
"I love you Maia always. Please be happy. Tell Tyler and Cory I'm sorry-" and with that Nathaniel drifted into a peaceful oblivion. His eyes fluttering shut for the last time.
#Sorry for the delay on this last chapter. I had a bit of writers block. As I kind of knew what I wanted to say, but I wasn't sure how to end the story. I encourage any writer who's suffering from writers block to take a break, mull it over. My dad gave me some great advice to write down a summary of what I wanted to write and then expand on it. This method helped enormously. I hope this works for other authors out there! I tried my best and I hope you like it ;)#
