It, honest to God, kinda worried me when I hear her tone of voice. Like it was a mix of anger, weariness, and irritation. Like something was thoroughly bothering her. I stood up and motion for her to follow my lead, "C'mon, then," I say.
She stands and fixes her top as I grab my keys and start for the door.

We've been driving around for about ten minutes in silence, other then the low music in the background. I'd steal a glance over at the short woman, but each time, she'd be facing ahead with a tight look on her face.
"Wanna get something to eat?" I ask, looking back at the road. In the corner of my eye, I see her look at me, expression not changing. I pull up to a red light and look at her.
She squints a bit, "You actually wanna be seen in public with me?" She somewhat snaps. I nod, "Yeah, I mean, we are a couple right?" I laugh in attempt to earn one from her.
Fail as fuck.
She turns her head back and I sigh, "What's wrong, Ally?" I ask in a sincere tone. She stays silent. The light turns green and I pull off. I decide not to press the issue. I'm not gonna force her to tell me anything; she'll tell me when she's ready.
A Waffle House comes into view and I pull into the parking lot. I notice her look around, a hint of excitement on her face. A small smile stretches over my lips. She's so cute when she's happy.
Wait, the fuck? Nah, you don't like her, remember? She's annoying and thinks she's the boss of everybody? You're just doing this for publicity, dawg. So don't even fucking think about it, nigga.
I sigh under my breath, parking in front of the barely busy diner. I turn the car off and undo my seatbelt. She was about to open her door, but I stop her. "What?" She asks, tone undetectable. I lick my lips in a non suggestive way, "I'll get it for you," I smile.
She looks at me skeptically then nods somewhat sarcastically. "Oh, yeah, right. The PR," I furrow my eyebrows. "Nah, it ain't like that this time. You seem a little tense so I wanna treat you. Y'know, a friend helping a friend."
She raises an eyebrow at me, "Since when were we friends?" I sigh, shaking my head to myself.
"Ally, look, I know we ain't best friends, but like Simon said, we gotta at least tolerate each other, no?" She nods, running a hand through her hair, "Yeah. Sorry, it's just-," I gently interrupt her.
"Don't think about it, love. Let's just have a dope ass- I mean, a fun day together, yeah?" She looks down, obviously hiding the smile on her face. She looks back up shortly, "Yeah."
I playfully punch her face and she smacks my arm with a giggle, "Jerk." I shrug and get out, jogging over to her side and opening her door. "A'ight, get out my car, shawty," I say, with a straight face. She rolls her eyes and pushes me out of the way.
I shake my head with a chuckle, closing her door and taking her hand. This time, she didn't pull away, which I was internally happy for. I open the door to the restaurant and let her in before me. She smiled up at me and I nod at her.
Honestly, bruh, I want to like her, but I also wanna hate her. Though, these last few weeks pretending to date haven't been so bad. The girls don't hate me no more; well, I dunno about Lern Jar Jar Binks.
I thought since we're like completely different people, we wouldn't work even for fake. I mean, c'mon, we're legit polar opposites.
We grab a booth and I take out my phone and put it in the middle of the table. She looks at me in mocked surprise, "Wow, the Y/N Johnson is actually putting her phone down? I'm shocked." I shrug, "I mean, I gotta give my girl my undivided attention, right?"
