"Did you unpack your stuff from the car?"
Insu stared up at me with his wide eyes, giving a nod. A hint of a small smile was on his face, his hands shoved into his sweatshirt's pocket. He was just as cute as usually.
The day was a chilly one, the summer slowly turning into autumn. The wind had a bitter whip to it, flipping my hair up earlier. I had to put it up so it wouldn't get into my face. I wore some jeans and a sweatshirt just like the others. I liked this type of weather; perfect for performing.
"Have you seen your sister anywhere?" I asked, looking around. After Namjoon and I's conversation from the early morning, I had slowly become paranoid to where Jinkyong always was. I knew she must have been with Namjoon or one of the guys, but it still terrified me.
"I saw her with Uncle Taehyung near where they started setting up the tent," Insu said, pointing in the direction where he had seen the last of his sister. He didn't seem so concerned.
"Let's go find her," I faked with a smile, taking his hand into mine. I started bringing him through the grounds, making sure he wouldn't leave my side.
As we wandered around, the tent was almost set up. It was almost three in the afternoon. Seokjin, Namjoon, Hoseok, and Jimin were setting up the tent while Taehyung and Yoongi were supposed to be tidying up around the trailers, making sure that everything looked fine.
Coming around the side of the tent, I only saw Taehyung and Jinkyong. There was no other people around. I started to hurry over to them to gather Jinkyong, but something that flew through the air made me jump back, almost planting my butt on the ground.
I knife hit a stray box on the ground, it's whole blade going straight through the cardboard in an easy flick of the wrists. My eyes were wide, my hand strangling Insu's. Jinkyong was jumping up and down, pulling at Taehyung's translucent, veined hands. Taehyung laughed at her, another knife in his hand.
I released Insu's hand, hurrying over to Jinkyong. As soon as I got close to her, I swept her up into my arms, pulling her against me. She cried out, her little feet kicking slightly.
"Taehyung, what have I told you about throwing knives around her?" I hissed at Taehyung. He looked at me without a care in the world. He just seemed blank, his face red and blue with the veins, the mix of slightly paled skin underneath it.
"She needs to learn, Y/N," he said, giving a shrug at me. "When you need to be a showman, you must learn a few tricks. Plus, good defense skills for her to learn. Namjoon said it was fine."
"Well, I'm her mother," I growled, peering down at the knife in Taehyung's hand. A completely flat knife, all metal. It shined in the dimmed sun behind some clouds. "I'm not having her being impaled and taking her to the hospital."
Taehyung looked me up and down. He knew not to question me as I parented, but he seemed hesitant this time. "I've been in this business for years now, Y/N. I've thrown knives my whole life. I know how to maneuver, to target, to do what I need to. It's a good show to put on for people. Everyone loves danger in their lives."
The glint in his eyes said something more to add onto that. I knew exactly what it was; he wanted me to take a load off of keeping my children out of danger.
I stared at him for a second, unblinking. I could feel myself struggle to answer his accusation, but something grabbed onto my leg. I looked down to see Insu standing there, looking up at Taehyung with a bit of fear. His fear of Taehyung would always remain, I believed.
I reached a hand down to put on Insu's hair, running my fingers through his hair gently. I looked at Jinkyong who was looking at Taehyung, wanting to be held by him. She obviously was having a good time, but what they were doing was dangerous. I didn't approve.
"How about you and Jinkyong go to the store to find a hula hoop or something?" I said to Taehyung, handing Jinkyong over to him. He didn't seem to care as I did. "Maybe you could teach her some tricks with it. We can do knife throwing later."
Taehyung gave a reluctant nod as an agreement. He gathered Jinkyong into his arms, giving her a smile, then a big peck of his lips on her cheek. She giggled at his action.
"Do you want to go get a hula hoop, little princess?" he asked, giving a boxy smile to her. He bounced her up and down a little.
She nodded her head, the knife throwing now gone from her mind. "Yeah!"
I looked down to Insu who was still plastered to my leg. I tapped him gently with one of my fingers. He looked up at me, his fear still apparent in his eyes. "Do you want to go with Uncle Taehyung to the store? I bet he could find you a new book, if you'd like."
I could tell Insu was about to say no until I mentioned the word "book" in my sentence. He gave an automatic nod. "Yes, please."
"Alright, you two. Let's go!" Taehyung said, reaching a hand out for Insu to take. Insu stared at it for a second, then took it, going to Taehyung. Taehyung looked up at me, giving a grin.
"What's so funny?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
He nudged Jinkyong a little. She turned to me, pulling out my car keys that had been in my sweatshirt pocket. My jaw dropped at the sight of it.
"You little sneaky thing!" I exclaimed to Jinkyong, feeling a smile come over my lips.
She giggled a bit. "We're taking your car," Taehyung sang, starting to head off to where the van and car were parked a little ways away. "We'll see you in a bit."
I watched as he started to walk away, paying attention to the kids instead of where he was walking. I never even noticed it, but a guy walked straight into him and the kids. The both of them slightly stumbled back, a little shaken up.
I looked at the guy. He was pretty young, about twenty maybe. He had large eyes like Insu, big and brown. He had hair that was done nicely, a shade of a dark purple to mix in with black. He had some glasses placed on the top of his head, a thin rim that was silver. He wore a nice, light blue dress shirt underneath a leather jacket and some khaki pants. He had a bag slung across his back, the strap hanging on his shoulder. It was small, but not too small to hold whatever he had in it.
When Taehyung's and the man's eyes met, I could see Taehyung go a bit dark. I sometimes wondered if it was by acting or maybe there was actually something that Taehyung despised about new people. Either way, now he looked terrifying.
I could see the guy was a bit startled. "O-Oh, I'm sorry."
Taehyung growled a tad at him. I could see Insu growing small in fear, but Jinkyong was fine. She just jingled my keys in her hands, looking at all the little key chains I had collected all over the country.
After a moment of a stare down(Taehyung winning), Taehyung went around the guy, keeping the kids close to him. The guy seemed completely shaken up by Taehyung's behavior. I watched Taehyung carefully walk to the car, making sure he wouldn't lash out with the kids in hand.
When I saw he had disappeared around the tent, I smiled to the guy, coming up to him. "Hi. I'm Y/N. Are you looking for someone?"
He looked at me, still startled by the mishap that had just occurred. "I-Is that--?"
"The freak show?" I said, then gave a nod. I uncrossed my arms, letting them fall to my sides. "Yes, that's him."
He kept looking to see where he had disappeared to. "He took the--"
"Those are my kids," I interrupted again. "It's fine. Don't worry. He loves them."
The man gave me an odd look. He shook his head a little, plastering a smile on his face to push away his fear. "I'm Jeon Jungkook, a reporter. Do you know where Kim Namjoon is?"
