Winter and Olivia crept back into their house using the back door.
Their parents were sitting on the living room couch and having coffee.
Without making too much sound, they went up to their joint bedroom and unloaded all their wizarding items. Then, they crept back downstairs and went out the door. They tried looking very tired and sweaty and re-entered using the front door. “Hello twins! It looks like you’ve been for a nice, long bike ride!” exclaimed their father, as Winter and Olivia entered the living
room, panting.
“Yes, we have! I hope you got our note alright!” replied Olivia. Winter had
agreed to let Olivia do all the talking in case she said anything about being in Diagon Alley.
“Yes, we found your note! We’re really happy you went for that bike ride, there’s nothing like one in the cool summer air!” assured their mother.
“We should go up to our room now! I am really tired! Aren’t you, Winter?”
asked Olivia. Winter nodded and the twins went back upstairs to their joint bedroom. “Can we pack for Hogwarts tomorrow? Let’s just put all of this in our cupboard for today!” said Olivia. “It’s a whole lot absorb in one morning!”
“Yeah! But I’m kinda scared too!” replied Winter, as she and Olivia crashed into their beds.
“Why? What’s troubling you?” asked Olivia, sitting up in her bed suddenly.
“What if they know that we found out about Hogwarts and Ministry officials come and obliviate us and take all the stuff we’ve bought, away! I wouldn’t be able to bear it!” said Winter, in a rush.
“Surely they would realise that if we got this far, maybe they could try us
out at Hogwarts too!” replied Olivia, she too was feeling worried.
“I hope so! I don’t want them to take this all away from us!” Winter said,
agitatedly.
“Listen, we’ll go to Hogwarts even without a letter, ok? We’ll find platform 9 and ¾ and we’ll run through the barrier and get there! Then, if they send us out, we’ll protest and at least we’ll see Hogwarts once! I’m sure, they won’t be cruel enough to take it all away from us!” said Olivia, reassuringly. She was suddenly like an older sister rather than a twin to Winter. And with this
resolution in mind, she lay down again. Winter nodded and after gathering herself a little bit, she said, “Yes, Olivia! If they don’t let us in, we’ll get in ourselves!” They both lay on their backs, staring at the ceiling.
“Winter,” said Olivia, sitting bolt upright again. “It’s the second-last day of vacation today! D’you want to do something special?”
“Of course I want to do something special! But what?” asked Winter.
“I don't know? D’you want to use the laptop? Go to the playground? Catch up with Meggan, Colin, Cheryl and the others?”
“I’d rather stay at home and work on the laptop! I am going to do some
research! Maybe one day, after my years at Hogwarts, I’ll write my own
book titled ‘The Ultimate Book of Facts about Hogwarts’!” replied Winter.
“And below the title, it will be written co-authored by Winter and Olivia
Hall!” said Olivia in a satisfactory tone.
“No, it will be written by, Winter Hall! And her big signature shall be there
right below her name!” retorted Winter.
“Well, that’s selfish! I give you the idea’s and you use them as your own!” cried Olivia, in outrage.
“No, you only gave me the idea of using the laptop, not making a book!” corrected Winter.
“Well then Ms. Perfect, I’ll leave you to writing your book because your
never going to write most probably! I’m going to call the others to play and you shall not be invited,” said Olivia, tactfully.
“Why won't I be writing this book?” asked Winter, angrily.
“Because, you’ll need to go to Hogwarts for that and there’s a fifty percent chance you’re even going to Hogwarts! And even if you do go to Hogwarts, you’re going to have to have a couple of years to discover everything so you won't be writing anything this summer, apart from the title and your name and ‘your big signature under it’!” said Olivia, quoting Winter, herself.
“Fine, then you go and enjoy yourself! I’m surfing the Internet for a while!”
said Winter.
“Sure! Enjoy yourself in the sweltering heat inside the room!” replied Olivia.
“Bye! Enjoy baking yourself in the sun!” said Winter, sarcastically.
“I will! I assure you!” said Olivia, she was failing in getting Winter to come
outside and did not want lose her cool at the same time. She walked out of
the room and went down to the living room. The cool blast of the AC hit her
and she saw that her dad was watching football. Olivia loved sports and Winter, was pretty much the opposite of her in everything, hated it. So, Olivia sat down in the living room with her dad and watched the football match. She knew Winter would not come down now for she could hear the TV. At the same time, Winter would want to sit in the AC. Olivia was happy to imagine that now Winter would be in dilemma over whether to come downstairs or not. Winter, upstairs was in dilemma just as Olivia had predicted. At first, she had turned the fan on but now found that it do much good against the heat. Now, she wanted to go down and sit in the AC but her dad would want her to watch football which she hated. So, Winter ended up sitting in her parents’ room with AC on. She was sprawled on their bed, the AC on and she was surfing the web. The only problem was that the TV was
too clearly audible. After the football match was over, Olivia went up to her room and got a book. She went back downstairs to the living room and was reading peacefully until Winter came and raged at her. “You said you were going to play but instead, you leave me in sweltering heat and came down to sit in the AC!” she yelled.
“It’s not my fault you hate football!” said Olivia, matter-of-factly.
“I don’t care about that! You could have still asked me!” yelled Winter.
“If I had asked you to watch football, you’d have bitten my head off! So drop the topic! You can sit in the AC now!” said Olivia, angrily.
“Fine!” said Winter, she put her laptop down on the rug and started typing furiously, looking in the opposite direction of Olivia. Their dad burst out laughing, “The way you girls fight! Some one would think you’re not even twins!”
“It’s not funny dad!” protested Olivia and Winter together. Then, furiously
blushing, both closed their mouth, not acknowledging the fact that they had just spoken together. The twins spent the rest of their day not talking to each other. They kept talking together too, like they had to their dad and then looked away with an angry look. Neither of the twins wanted to
apologise and did not accept that they were mistaken. Finally, Olivia broke
the silence at night when they were tucked into bed. “I do hope we get our Hogwarts letters tomorrow! It will feel weird to try and break into
Hogwarts!” she said, feeling slightly tense.
“And what punishment we might get for breaking into Hogwarts! And poor Jess, she might be punished too!” replied Winter, catching up Olivia’s feelings. The twins went to bed though they were not at all sleepy. The next day, they woke up early and began to pack their Hogwarts trunk. Their packing was interrupted by a scream. The twins glanced at each other and rushed downstairs. In the doorway was standing, Ginny Weasley wearing a muggle suit.
