[ Marinette's POV ]
"I need to leave."
What? So soon?
Marinette saddens a little. She really didn't want to part with him yet. Yes, they spent all day together, but she didn't feel like it was enough.
Is she being selfish?
Yes.
Did she care?
Haha, no.
"Are you sure you don't want to wait for some of the rain to pass?" She shrugs off his jacket and hands it to him. "Or I can give you a ride if you-"
"Marinette."
Marinette looks at him. His face glows with a soft yellow hue from the light inside, his hair, dripping wet and stuck to his forehead, shines from the water, and occasionally drips small drops down his face.
His stance, although confident, looks sad, his shoulders sagging just a tad, his head bent.
Through his lashes Marinette sees his blue eyes look at the floor. Final thoughts and wishes flowing through them.
Was he thinking? Building confidence?
Confidence to do what?
Then he raises his head again, his eyes locking onto her's.
"Marinette, I'm leaving to America. Tonight."
Leaving? Leaving?!?! But he literally just arrived today! Why is he leaving?
But she can't whine to him about it. From the looks of it, he doesn't seem too thrilled about the idea either. Maybe it isn't his choice? She's got to stay positive. For both of them.
Marinette cracks a small grin and places a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, its O.K." She shrugs, "Just tell me when you're coming back! That way we can get together and-"
"No Marinette. That's the thing." Luka's eyes momentarily leave her's before they return.
"I don't think I'm coming back."
Marinette's heart sinks.
"What?"
"I've been meaning to tell you. I just got really distracted and..."
Luka chokes on his words and takes a few steps back, getting out from under the shade and back into the rain. Marinette's hand falls off and back to her side.
He closes his eyes and leans his head back...and...woah.
With the movement, the familiar strand of hair that covers his forehead whips back, his wet hair slicking back in a gorgeous mess of back and blue. But his face? Mesmerizing. His soft white contrasts beautifully with the dark blue hue of the sky. The water makes his skin shine like never before. Marinette notices every resting drop of water on his face, or the ones that stream down his jaw and drop off his chin, the small ones that get caught on his lashes. The ones that rest on his lips.
She doesn't know how much time has passed. But holy cow he made standing in the rain look so good.
He opens his eyes again and Marinette snaps out of the blue trace she is under. Their eyes find each other and he closes the distance between them. Suddenly Marinette finds herself wrapped in a tight embrace. Not caring that he is dripping wet, she hugs him close, fitting perfectly into his arms.
