As Hayley sat with her platoon, she scanned the rest of the year 7’s. Who would be a good guy for Alice? She wondered. A nudge from Azie bought her back to the present. “What about Josh?” She whispered excitedly. Hayley stared at her in surprise, before turning around to regard Josh. He was quite tall, with white-blonde hair and hazel eyes. Hayley had seen him around, but she had never paid him much attention before. She realised with a tingle of excitement that he was in Alice’s platoon. That would make everything so much easier. Hayley shook her head, Azie has just started this year and yet she already knows everyone better than I do. Talk about feeling ignorant

Hayley was once again brought back to planet Earth by Azie giving her a nudge. She glanced over at Josh again, just in time to see him whisper something in Alice’s ear. The redhead chuckled, before giving him a light punch on the shoulder. Hayley grinned, before whispering to Azie,

“I think this will be easier than we expected.”

After their morning activities, Hayley and Azie grabbed Kat. Hayley quickly conveyed their idea to Kat, who after a moment’s pause, agreed.

“It’s a good idea, but do you think Josh likes her?” Kat questioned, voicing Hayley’s own concerns. Azie considered this for a second, tilting her head slightly to the side, before shrugging.

“I think that it’s there is a good chance he does, so we may as well go for it!”  She remarked. Hayley was a bit indecisive, but she shook off her doubts like a dog shaking off water. She grinned at her friends.

“Then let us be matchmakers!”

As Hayley and Kat walked towards the outside assembly area for lunch, Hayley ran over their plan in her head. She took a deep breath. It was risky, but if it worked, I would work well.

When they reached the assembly room, Hayley immediately looked around for Alice. She spotted the red-head sitting at one of the picnic tables with Josh and Azie. Hayley grinned, this was looking good.

As the two girls approached, Azie looked up and winked at them, obviously making sure that they knew that she had played a helping hand in getting them to sit together. Hayley sat down next to Alice, before opening her mouth.

“So, Josh, totally random question. If you had to go out with one person on this table, who would it be?” Hayley asked, her voice innocent. Josh blushed, before replying,

“Umm, probably Alice.” He muttered. Alice blushed as well, before turning to Josh.

“Do you mean that?” She asked him, fluttering her lashes slightly. Josh smiled shyly,

“Yeah, I do.” His face was red. Alice grinned at him, before getting up and giving him a hug.

“Good, because I really want to go out with you!” Alice laughed. Josh smiled, and hugged her back. Hayley glanced at Kat,

“Should we leave the lovebirds alone?” She asked, grinning to her friends. Kat gave Hayley a look that she knew well. It was a look that said,

Back away quickly and quietly before they realise what we have done.’

Hayley was only too happy to oblige.

The girls were buzzing on their success, and Hayley rode through the rest of the day on a high. When she finally collapsed onto her bed, exhausted, she felt as if she would never get up again.

She became aware of someone tapping on her skull, and turned around to look at the bed opposite hers. Kat was grinning at her.

“Now that that’s sorted out, let’s concentrate on our main goal. Getting Holly and Nate together once and for all!”
