Mia walked through the asylum’s gardens. Every now and then she would rake her fingers through her hair and let out a frustrated sigh. How the hell did the demons take over while she was still conscious? Or did she do it on her own and blame it on the demons? No. She didn’t want to hurt people.
Though it was fun. A voice chimed.
“It wasn’t!” Mia yelled. Her head was pounding, not because of the voices laughing, but because of all the thoughts and questions whirring through her brain.
Mia decided to skip the Circle lesson all together. She didn’t want to go inside either. She didn’t want to talk to anyone, especially Calum. She felt vulnerable at the moment, like at any minute she would flood out with feelings and tell the closest person to her everything that happened. She couldn’t do that; she had to get away from everyone for a while. The nurses did recommend a few hours of fresh air after all.
Mia was surprised she didn’t have any nurses or guards following her, she guessed that it looked like she was the innocent one.
Innocent. A voice scoffed.
Mia rolled her eyes and made her way down a mossy cobblestone path. It looked like it was never used, maybe it wasn’t. Patients didn’t come this far out after all.
Voices were murmuring things that Mia couldn’t make out, laughter bounced throughout her head. She clenched and unclenched her fists over and over again, her teeth clenched in anger. How could she turn this off? There was no way too. She didn’t like soccer like Calum did; she didn’t have anything to distract her. After all, she didn’t take an interest anything at all.
Except murder. A voice laughed.
Mia sighed inwards. Would they ever stop?
A gazebo came into view. It was a little run down, the wooden poles supporting it were starting to splinter, the tin roof had dents in it filled with leaves.
Mia walked into the gazebo to see Ashton in there. Great, this was just what she needed. As usual he was brooding, his hazel eyes were fixed on the flowers in the garden ahead. His eyebrows were scrunched together in concentration.
Mia sat on the bench and looked in the opposite direction. The last thing she wanted was to talk to him, especially when she was feeling this guilty.
“What did you do?” Ashton instantly knew something was wrong. Though he didn’t tear his eyes from the garden.
“Nothing.” Mia mumbled.
“Nobody comes to a run down gazebo because of ‘nothing’.” He said the same sort of thing earlier. Mia just ignored him.
“Seriously, though. What did you do?” He looked in Mia’s direction. She didn’t look at him; she just knew he was looking at her. She could feel it on her back.
“You have to talk to someone. And I’m the one who would understand the most.” Ashton murmured when she didn’t reply.
“I don’t have to talk to anyone. I’m fine.” Mia mumbled before getting up and walking out.
“Fine is just another word for broken.” Ashton said loud enough for Mia to hear. Why was he so determined to know about her problems? She wasn’t bartering him with questions about his life.
Mia continued walking up the path, towards the asylum. The gazebo was tucked away from everything, hiding amongst the abandon rose garden. It was a nice place to be alone, besides from the brooding boy.
“Hey, you missed the Circle session.” Calum ran up to Mia as she came close to the building, a soccer ball was tucked under his arm. “Where did you go?”
