Mia made her way to the Day Room. Sure, she didn’t want to socialize with people but it was better then talking to Ashton. He wanted to ‘fix’ her. You can’t fix this; you can’t fix what’s too far-gone. That’s like chasing the moon, you can chase it in the car and get closer and closer, but you’ll never be able to hold it. You’ll never be able to steal it.
Mia made her way into the Day Room to see Luke playing Connect 4 with Calum. What was Calum doing here?
Mia walked towards the table that Luke and Calum were sitting at.
“What are you doing here?” She asked Calum.
“I met Luke in the Gardens yesterday, he said that I should come here.” Calum shrugged. He didn’t meet Mia’s eyes. His face was still beaten and bloody.
“Look, I’m sorry for last night.” Calum started.
“It’s fine. Don’t worry. It happens to the best of us.” Mia sat down next to Calum.
“Hi Mia.” Luke smiled.
“Hey, Luke.” Mia greeted.
Who should we target first? Calum or Luke?
“No one.” Mia mumbled quietly so Calum couldn’t hear.
Jan in sitting in the corner. That nurse over there looks vulnerable. A voice continued.
“Mia?” Calum raised his eyebrows in suspicion.
She was sick of this. She was sick of the panic attacks, she was sick of being scared and she was sick of fighting with these voices.
Mia’s head started to pound. Should she cave in? Or should she try and fight the inedible.
The question is: whom should we go for first?
“Are you alright, Mia?” Calum asked, he put his hand on her shoulder.
“I’m fine.” Mia shrugged off Calum’s hand and stood up.
What should we use as a weapon?
“Nothing.” Mia said.
You’re right. Our hands! I like it!
“We aren’t going to do it.” Mia yelled. Her head started to pound harder. A nurse ran over to Mia and her vision went blurry.
Oh, C’mon! We are bored! A demon whined.
“No! Not here. Not again!” Mia was on here knees now. She was doing what she always did in times like these; she put her hands over her ears and clenched her eyes shut. It didn’t work but it was an automatic thing. Why did she get panic attacks so quickly?
Remember: If you can’t beat ‘em, Join ‘em.
Then Mia’s vision went black and she felt like she had fallen into a bottomless void.
Calum perked up and ran towards Mia. She was having a panic attack and screaming at nothing. Nurses rushed over to help her off the floor. Calum was standing by Mia now. He was trying to figuring out what she was saying. She was saying names.
“Toby, Sally, Jordon, Zeke, Sister Bea, Amy, Lochie, Father Billus.” The list went on and on. What did it mean?
“Nothing to see here.” A nurse informed to all the patients watching.
Then, Mia was fine. She was standing up and looked… blank.
It happened. She must have been resisting for too long. But what did they want her to do? Calum took a step back, cautious of what will unfold.
